Overhearing Two Young Kids Talking Grunge

Alright, I never eat in this massive work station's cafeteria but today I broke down and did just that. While I was waiting for my tots to finish cooking I overheard these two young men talking music next to me. One was born in 1980, the other 1989. The one born in 80 was lecturing the other guy on grunge music, specifically Soundgarden and Pearljam. The one born in 89 had never even heard of any of the grunge bands. I stood there smiling politely, until 1980 pulls me into the conversation with a "Just ask this guy, I bet he knows." So, both 1980 and I sat there in line ignoring the cooks while we proceeded to tease 1989 about his lack of music knowledge and inform him on what albums/songs he needed to hear.

Freakin' kids these days... at least the ones born after 1980 I guess. :D

    I was born in '86. Last summer I found a notebook from 6th grade that had these bands written on the front of it: STP, RATM, Pearl Jam, Green Day, and unfortunately Korn. I was so close to being really cool lol.

    EDIT: I don't like Green Day anymore but I loved Dookie as a kid. Now I think it's alright. Korn, on the other hand, sucked then and sucks now.

    I was born in 1981, so I was only 10 when Ten came out. But lucky for me, my sister was 16 and I wanted her to think I was cool so I took an interested in everything she liked - which brought me to PJ at a young age, as well as Blind Melon, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, the list goes on. And those were all mainstream bands in the early 90s. Mainstream rock now tends to be generic, so I'd say the kids of this up and coming generation definitely need a little musical guidance. If I didn't have my sister, I'd be a completely different person right now.

    Crazy eh? I mean, I can understand someone not liking PJ (it's hard but I can do it), but to have never even heard of them? I should have put him over my knee and gave him a paddlin'.

    That's cool. Only time I hear grunge brought up among high schoolers these days is just to discuss what a "talented genius" Kurt Cobain was.
