Look at classic bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who They'll always be missing that backbone peice. In my opinion, there's no one least valued

They are all important!

Indeed.
I found it odd people were quick to kick out Matt from PJ when asked who is the least important.
If anything, I think the drummer is kinda a symbol for where/what the band is at the moment. If you look a Matt's drumming, imo, it symbolizes where/what PJ are now in their career. Not sure if that makes any sense, but that's the way I see it."Would I rather be feared or loved? Um... Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." -Michael Scott0 -
It varies from band to band. It just so happens in Pearl Jam that they have had several drummers. Other bands have replaced singers, guitarists, bassists and it's not such an issue.0

It's not that people feel this way about all bands, it's that they feel this way about Pearl Jam. The band's multiple drummers probably have something to do with that. Can't escape from the common rule...
If you hate something, don't you do it too0 -
A band is only as good as their drummer.

it was a foolish and disrespectful thread to begin with,...To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

From playing in bands, I totally agree.i like matt.c wrote:A band is only as good as their drummer.
2 cents.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0 -
The drums and base keep the band rolling along. Can't understand why anyone would think a drummer is the least important part of the band.
Perhaps some of the musicians think that way. Eric clapton made a howler in London in June. He introduced all the band members throughout the show but forgot the drummer. He was stunning!!!!0 -

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-120 -

Agreed. Matt Cameron is one of the best drummers in rock today, but so was Jack Irons. I think Pearl Jam has lucked out by having really talented drummers. I think the most important person in the band is the singer. Imagine PJ without Eddie.
BTW. Geddy Lee from Rush was enamored by Matt Camerons skill while producing My Favorite Headache, while Neal Peart had some nice comments about Jack Irons back in the day.Light green to green, dark green, brown..
