Teacher's brutal attack on boy

A schoolteacher has been fired after she brutally attacked a 13-year-old pupil in front of a classroom full of students, according to US reports.
Shocking video footage appears to show Sheri Davis dragging, kicking and slapping sixth grader Isaiah Johnson after squaring up to him as he cowered in a corner.
The alleged beating is thought to have lasted almost a minute and was filmed on a mobile phone by another pupils before being posted on YouTube.

    I'm chosing to withhold judgement until the teacher's side of the story comes to light. As crazy as she appears, something had to cause her to "snap". She seriously lost her wits....literally.

    according to the story in the news report, the kids were making fun of a mentally challenged kid

    but that in no way excuses this teachers actions...there is no excuse for this behavior

    while i agree schools are much different today and kids seem more willing to cause trouble....no matter what he may have done he is 13 and she is an adult. if a 13 year old stole my wallet and i beat his ass i would be arrested.

    if the kid was attacking her then i could understand defending herself but the kid was cowering in the corner...it didn't look like he was trying to attack her but perhaps something happened before the video was shot that set her off...but it's still no excuse...if the kid is that bad, call his parents and the cops

    True...but a lot of parents have turned into pure blind defenders of the child's wrongdoings rather than disciplinarians. Of course, beating the kid like this was certainly not called for.

    the kid probably deserved it, I coach 13 year old kids and they are extremely good at pushing buttons and boundaries. That being said a teacher can NEVER do something like this and still teach again. How an adult cannot keep their composure when a 13 year old is screwing around is beyond me. She should be arrested and charged with child abuse. If that was their mom doing the same thing the kid would be in protective services already.

    The kid's mom probably screwed up their chance with a lawsuit when she admitted that the kid was instigating the teacher. I'll bet 100 ambulance chasers screamed "NO" in unison when she told the news crew that.

    The bold part is true lol... but... like you said, adults just can't do that sort of thing.

    If this woman is a teacher, then she just wasted her college degree, because she'll never get a job working with kids again.

He told the boy: "I'll teach you to fuck off," before dragging him out of the classroom and into a storeroom across the corridor.     Not everyone can be a teacher. It's a vocation which requires a certain type of person. Not just a job where you have loads of holidays.

    I am not taking the teachers side here but I am sure he deserved it. This happened to me in the 5th grade, I constantly mouthed off to my teachers(actually everyone). My teacher had a conference with my parents about it and my father told him that if I get out of line he can do what is necessary. Well, yeah I got smacked around a few times(in front of the whole class mind you), and I can admit that I deserved it.

    I should state that this is the only teacher to ever actually get thru to me. I actually visited him a few times over the last 20 years, he was still teaching up until he passed away 5 years ago.


    I am not condoning what this teacher did but sometimes this is what a kid needs. Kids today have no consequences for their actions. They think that they can do what they want when they want. I am not saying beat kids, but at least put the "fear" back into them.

    When I first heard about this I thought about my kids n how I would have attacked anyone who laid a finger on them. Not until I read what the OP wrote did I think about it....
    He's so right. Even more so today, kids are NOT disciplined at all! I see so many of them with complete disrespect to adults and its just wrong. I know their are a lot of Liberals in here and I don't wanna turn this into a political discussion but IMO a lot of that type of behavior steams from Liberal thinking. Again, IMO.
    Kids need to know their are consequences for their inappropriate actions. I got in trouble ALL the time growing up and suffered the consequences......got my ass kicked! HAHA. Some might say then it shows it did not help me but it did. It taught me a lot. That said....I just cant really hit my kids. My daughter is almost 4 and once I spanked her cause she was wide awake and being very bad at 3am and I felt really bad about it. But she does understand when I say no and she listens to me......it starts at home.
    Sorry for the ramble. I have not been in here in a long time. Its nice to be back.

    For any adult who has responsibility of a child (whether permanently or temporarily), gaining respect is important. 'Governing' by fear is left for prisons. Yes, some parents do not teach their children respect but in the same vein, some teachers cannot command this respect. Some kids are just plained troubled, coming from a troubled environment - this could be all kinds: abuse at home, poverty, drugs, etc.

    From what acoustic guy went on to say it seems he knew this wasn't the right thing to do and he felt guilty about it. It didn't seem like he was advocating it as the way forward

    Gaining respect is important but it seems a lot of these children today are raised to feel they do not have to respect teachers (or adults in general) ... instead of respecting someone until they do something to lose that respect it seems they only respect their peers. In the UK case a group were taunting the teacher to get a reaction they could film on their phones ... the reaction was more than they expected. The teacher knew he did wrong but confesses to having lost it.

    He was a teacher that be all reports had huge respect from a lot of pupils who were queueing up to sing his praises (some of whom I know personally) ... I think its sad that good teachers do not get the support and help to disipline (and I am against any kind of physical discipline) children from within the school system and from parents. I know from when I was at school there are some parents who will defend any kind of behaviour by their children.

    I feel we need to rethink the way teachers and pupils are expected to interact as if things continue as they are we are going to get fewer people willing to become teachers ... and I'm rambling :P
