    Wrong!

Deer population is increasing because WE ARE SPRAWLING AND BIGGERING AND BIGGERING pushing them out of their natural habitats by humans crowding them out and friggin cutting down trees. Have you noticed that they will have no where to go and you will shoot them?

Why not kill off people off when the population get's to big this planet?

    WTF?

Most regions here in Canada allow hunting and have strict rules and quotas about how many deer you can hunt or turkeys or whatever and it is a means of conservation. If you don't control the animal population you won't eat. when deer population gets to large they move into farmers fields, destroy their crops, etc.. Sorry you may not like hunting, but tough, here in Canada it's a way of life for many people. In the States it's even bigger. As for the seal hunt, same thing it's been a way of life for generations. The world needs to get over.

It has nothing to do with hunting. It has everything to do with cruel and unusual violence. And if you don't believe the world is taking away the animals homes, read a children's book called The Lorax.

Animal habitat is decreasing the world over ... But in the specific case of deer, that is not the issue. Deer populations are too large because natural controls in the form of large predators are largely gone. Biodiversity decreases cause certain animal populations to explode, as a result of disruptions in the food chain and other factors. Deer, rabbits, the introduced House Sparrow, pigeons ... These kinds of critters become too numerous because their predators cannot adapt to hunting pressures and habitat changes, while they can. Ever wonder why most of the birds in the city belong to maybe 5 or 6 species, whereas in the woods there can be dozens? Habitat loss is a major, major problem, but not all species are affected the same way. Deer are a prime example. There is actually too much deer habitat, and not enough predators.

this thread was about SEALS and unusual torture. :?

I don't understand why people change the subject. Many folks "wait to talk" rather than listening to another side.

I think this thread is done and again I wonder how many people who replied here disregarded the violence, actually watched the seal slaughter on video. I don't feel anyone bothered.

THANK YOU for those who care.

The rest of you I will just call "kitten stompers."

That issue has been addressed, until someone replaces the seal hunters income it will likely continue. Beside's your only commenting about the seals because they look so cute on TV, go inside a slaughter house, I'm sure its not very pretty their either. Sorry unless your a true vegan, then you really have no room to comment.

Ive learned to turn down the notch on my animal rights views and consider the whole situation first.
I hate seeing animals in vain, and i hate seeing animals being killed. I don't like seeing baby seals hooked in the eye... But some people do have some valid points. They aren't endangered, not like the bears in my province (where some communities of bears are at such a low population they wont be able to breed after 2 more generations!), I see that point. And its also a very valid point that if it were pigs being slaughtered no one would care, because they aren't cute and fuzzy.

I'm not saying I agree with the seal hunt (I don't) but until I can find the time and will power to become a vegetarian, I can't really speak out against people who eat seals. Fur is a different story, of course.

So I'm not a "kitten stomper", I'm just trying to be realistic here.

I only like them because they are cute? Hmm....lets see, you must be magic to be able to read my mind. I am amazed at your power of perception. But wait, your statement is even further from the truth as I don't watch the idiot box. I keep my eyes open to injustice and suffering and try to speak for those who cannot.

Let me ask you this: Do you like it when strangers tell you what you are thinking?

I'm almost 50. I've seen so much violence that it makes my stomach crawl. In fact this whole thread of cynical "humans" (except for the rare few that were brave enough to take a stand with me) makes be believe that the human race will eventually die out and peace can return to this Earth. We are biggering and biggering and eating up resources like a fat man with a sweet tooth.

We are not the top of the food chain, this place was not created for us. It is to be shared. If you take away your neighbors home, don't be shocked when that neighbor moves into your front yard. Will you kill him then?

I don't eat meat because I don't put tissue in my body that has suffered for my eating pleasure. There is plenty of healthy food out there to eat. Ok, if your staving in the wilderness, I guess you would have to save yourself, but I bet you would not hook a deer by the eye and then leave it to suffer instead of using it to nourish you.

If you eat meat, fine. That's your choice, but I would feel exactly the same way about a cow, a chicken or even an ant. ALL LIVING BEINGS do not deserve to suffer and I will stand by that as did Buddha as did any peaceful message bearer.

You can live life lovingly or you can be a bitter and judge someone like me, but I guarantee you, what goes around eventually comes around. "What do you give back to help those that suffer?" Think hard and long about how you live. You get what you put out.

Now you have a very nice day and I will wish for you an open mind.

My mind is open, I assume your talking about the seal hunt in NFLD/Labrador, well like I said until something replaces their income it's going to continue, sorry, this province has been hit very hard economically and for many this is a way to supplement their fishing income, this is how many make their living. I really don't care whether you like it or not, nor do they, or the politicians who have the power to change it, Such as Life.

I care about what you say, but disagree. If you did not care, you would not have posted.

I really do appreciate others automatic habit of taking the other side as to create a five page argument about something innocent and hurting.

I'm always for the underdog. I always will be. I just can't believe how many Pearl Jam fans on this message forum have not read and understood the book Eddie recommended called Ishmael. If you have read it and still think that we humans have every right to destroy and possess what we find, then well, I'm just sorry you have missed Quinn's point...humans are a virus. Our culture is killing us. Read about us through the eyes of a gorilla and see what your heart says then.

Let's hope some alien race who is extremely hungry for flesh, won't land on this Earth to pursue our flesh. I wonder how many people would change their tune if they were the ones being devoured against their will. Yum, soylent green.....

I'm still pleased I started this thread despite the trolls who know it all and want to bash me down for trying to give back... I dislike apathy towards violence. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nobody is trolling in this thread. And based on my own personal experience, here's some advice ... If you don't want to hear a dissenting opinion, don't post. Pardon my tone, but no one in here has treated you rudely, and yet you stoop to calling those who don't agree with you "kitty-stompers" and "humans" (in quotes).

yeah... in fact my views on our species are probably the same as the OP but i feel she is being a bit rash... just take a moment to step back and look at the discussion before calling all of us kitty stompers.

she had it right with the culture thing, not so much the humans as a virus tho... the two kind of contradict, according to quinn anyways. start another thread on ishmael and the story of b and i feel we could have a good discussion :)

just don't be so quick to judge.

There is actually a book out now that is based on the hypothesis that the increased numbers of crows is reflective of our environment being out of balance.....have not read it for the details, but it makes sense on the surface.

I'm not trying to sway your opinion, like I've said it's really about money and until they have a better way to supplement their income the seal hunt will continue. This is NFLD/Labrador they love their province and where they live, unfortunately far to many have had to leave to find work. I know people from there and they would move back in a heart beat if work was available. All these sealers are trying to do is survive and continue to live where they want.

People are rude when they automatically discount what I posted. The devils advocate syndrome on here is like a virus and yes I hate posting in this particular forum because if I had posted something like, "I have cancer and my last wish is to help the earth. Would people disagree with me then?

I don't care if you think I should not post. I've got a tough skin and your attempt to shut me up is just a waste of time. Also, are you suggesting that I censor myself? If you did not like my statement about kitten stompers, well, maybe it hits too close to your home? If the expression "kitten stomper" offends you, well that makes me laugh...... I could have said much worse. You are suggesting I censor myself by not opening my mouth to injustice. Maybe you should start a thread about how you dislike people speaking out.

I believe that there are good PJ fans....who care about the same things as the band. Like the oceans. What if I posted about the state of the oceans, would someone be opposed to that as well?

I like the band Phish and as much as I like pearl jam, the phish fans are far more evolved in the way they treat strangers. There is a general feeling of all of us being connected....what you do to your fellow living being will come back to you. I believe in love, not violence. I think that is fine characteristic to have. I have never met a stranger on Phish tour. There would not waste their time trying to tell me I'm wrong.

If you think my post is worth nothing to this forum. Then I say have a nice bitter life of never understanding another's pain.

When I invent my empathy machine, you can try it out and walk a mile in my shoes, I'm just a mother who wants to teach her child that violence in any form serves no purpose to humans and animals alike. To tell me not to post here is just plain funny. I have every right to express what I feel and if that means that most people are going to bash me in the head with a pick I'll keep taking it. The more you disagree with my sending the message of non violence, the more passion I have to remain steadfast on this subject. Thanks for helping me gain speed. You are so considerate :)

Oh Lordy .... I am not even going to delve into most of that attempt to demonize me and other fans of the band who disagree with your views. I will mention that my intent is not to shut anybody up, in fact, this was a good thread in terms of the ideas shared. I was just saying that you should expect someone to disagree, if nothing else because humans are pretty diverse in their views. Suffice to say, BhagavadGita, I have nothing against you personally and if you make the world a better place via your endeavors, awesome.

Of course my intention was to never "demonize" anyone. I apologize for that. Suffering of all beings is a concern of mine.

I wanted to share a video showing violence by mankind.

I wanted to find other humans who were opposed to this act.

What I got was a discussion that went off onto other things.

All I wanted was to stay on topic and to help these creatures.

It seems kinda odd to say YOUR feelings are hurt after viewing this film.
