My hubby and I were watching the show LIFE (tivo'd) on the Discovery channel. We saw a commercial for the new season of The Deadliest Catch which had the EV song Rise Up playing throughout. Awesomeness! Anyone else see it? Anyone know where to find it on the interwebs??
"Oh dear dad, can you see me now? I am myself, like you somehow."

I'm looking forward to the new season, but I also know it'll be sad, as we know Captain Phil passed away during filming (I think it was the 2nd half of the season with the umm Oppie's, so the whole time watch King Crab season you kinda know what happens, which will be said).

Love the show though... I get so sea sick I could never do it, but its awesome to watch on tv.

That's so cool...I do love that song :)

It seems that Eddie's songs are everywhere these days...feels funny doesn't it?

After all those years of relative obscurity except for maybe in a movie soundtrack here or there, now it's all over the place.

It's like, PJ, and especially Ed, were kind of like "all ours" for such a long time, and now they are kinda everyone's. ...lol.

Glad he's making some money but it feels weird to me.

    How bout you?
    peace,

I am very glad they are making money, they deserve to.

I'm just saying, well, lol, call me what you will, but hey, I kinda don't like sharing....rofl! :P

I know, here it comes...I'm prepared to duck....INCOMING!!!!!!!!

What I think is funny is...I associated this commercial with the cancer cause. My father had cancer and they played the commercial that used this song in between innings at a Phillies game and I could tell it moved him and the song was great for the cause and the commercial.

Now it is also associated with fish. I feel like the worth of the song has been killed.

I remember hearing Hum on that commercial too. I used to love that song. What was it called? Stars?

I saw the Deadliest Catch commercial the other night too. Ittook me a minute to finally realize that it was Vedder because I just never thought Vedder would ever give permission to use one of his songs in a commercial. But then again, its not like its a commercial trying to sell a product. Its just a commercial for a TV show. No big deal IMO

Wasn't the movie for which the song was written about minimizing consumerism and objects?

depends. you could also say its about not going overboard about it.

I actually have yet to see the movie. I told someone I know about the commercial and that was his response. I guess it wasn't too far off.

Not really, I think he realized leaving people behind was the mistake. I think he realized even more that life isn't about what you have it's who you have it with.

I agree that in the end he realized that the trials and tribulations, joys and little happies in life really don't mean much unless you have someone to share them with. It's all good to go out alone and find out who you are, but once done, when you are able to know and love yourself, then you can give love back..and we, as humans, seem to need to do that. Whether that love is romantic or platonic doesn't seem to matter much. As long as we give and receive love.

Well if that's the case then I can totally see how it relates to a show about fish.

Ed looks like a fisherman. all he needs is a yellow raincoat.
