So I am downloading those two Garden shows in anticipation of my own two Garden shows. Everyone raves about it and I would love to know why before I listen to it. Is video necessary to get the whole effect or does audio do the trick?

    Thanks!!

It's the best because it was my first!!!

this was also my first show...

i remember snail mailing in my order form for tickets and getting the mail daily for the next few months waiting to see a ticketmaster or Vitalogy Health Club envelope. so the tickets finally arrive and not knowing anything about MSG, i looked up a seating chart and was shaking with excitement as i realize that the 10 club hooked me up with 8th row seats to my absolute favorite band! Also, this tour was for YIELD which quickly became my second favorite album they had at the time behind Vs.

the whole day pre-show was a waste cause i was so freaking psyched i couldn't think of anything else. they could have played the worst songs in the PJ catalog, but the energy they had that night, would have made anything sound amazing

great memory! i think i still have my BREATH flier and i still have my poster~

the recording quality isn't that bad, but what's funny is that you could definitely tell this was the first time they've played Breath in a while=p

It was my first show with 10Club tickets (even though I had been a member since before Vitalogy came out)

I was quoting that last line from the Concert Chronology on 5H ["Possibly the best show the band has ever played in their life. Period. (And they knew it, too.)"] for years when I was describing the greatest concert I had ever been to.

Not simply a great show - it was epic.

This explanation appears on 5h because Caryn was a member of the "breath" team, and because we happen to have this forum available to us, and because there are too many misconceptions about what this was all about floating around. It's unfair to everyone who took part in this. The celebratory splash page that was up on 5h this weekend - the "we" in "WE DID IT!" was all of us. Every single last one of us who xeroxed or carried or handed out or held up a sign. Every one. If one of those groups of people had been missing, this could not have happened.

Is Caryn Rose still into Pearl Jam... haven't heard anything about her since 5H shut down.

I remember having some pretty spirited debates with her way back on alt.music.pearl-jam.

Really cool story, I read a few things about this at the time but didn't realize just how organized the campaign was. Such a good residency at MSG too and I wish there had been 10c boots back in 98 :D Now to get to work on the Freebird signs

Funny story. I was 7th row center for this show. Had my breath sign and realized I was holding it upside down. Thought who cares no one saw me. Well that's me on the cover of the bootleg w/ the upside down breath sign!!

  • For me, that was the first show where it seemed like they kind of were comfortable in their own skin. They just seemed to have so much fun that night. I remember leaving the show and my friend who I brought who got me into pearl jam (but no longer dug them all that much) said something like: "Eddie really seemed to like being a rock star tonight."

"Mate", You MUST experience it with the best audio/ thingy and get aquainted with the Garden.

If you have to ask you have not been a fan that long, I was at 9/10/98 the "Ken Star" show. The "Breath" campaign was in full affect, and Ed referenced it but said he took viagra and was busy having sex with his wife "Beth" and didn't learn the song. It was also the famous for Stone forgetting the solo during "All those yesterdays".

At the risk of looking like a NEW fan....I didn't know that. :D thanks.
  • Not my first show, but song for song - start to finish - first Breath since 94 followed by SOL&T - Ed climbing into Rafters - +1 Epic

Restlesssoul, that's exactlly how I remember it. I remember standing in the parking lot at the swamps and some girl hands me the breathe sign. Then I remember going to MSG both nights and reading your post brought back many kick ass memories from that tour......although I hated the hole Kenneth star bullshit. Shouldve played a song instead of talking about that prick. I remember going to hartford and people handing me thank you signs. And I believe it was after the first encore that the signs came up and the band had this fucking awesome look on there faces like, ya these are our fans and this is how special they are. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.....I wonder who eds gonna call from the stage this time???? Maybe he'll place a phone call to Obama??? Maybe Obama will answer not like Johnny!!!

    the good old days . . .
During 'Alive,' Ed makes four attempts to toss his microphone over the vocal monitor rig above his head, and finally gets it over, but instead of just standing there, he proceeds to CLIMB UP THE MIC CORD and hang there for the rest of the song. Possibly the best show the band has ever played in their life. Period. (And they knew it, too.)

i still have mine. but it's at my parents house in my box of PJ goodies.

found this doing a quick yahoo search though:

can't read the fine print, and can't remember what it exactly says, but basically talks about the song and the last time it was played in '94 in boston.
