What does the number in the bracket indicate?

And I am confused as to how to play the below, how can you play on 2 strings at the same time, don't get it.

    I think a bend in that case, if that doesn't sound right try slide or hammeron.

    In good tab, harmonics will be in parenthesis.

    Random? What song is it? Might be able to better work it out from that?

    I guess its like playing a chord progression? It probably helps to get your fingers in the best place to play that section of the lead.
