It thought is was a very good movie about a real-life Iron Man with balls of steel but did it deserve best picture? I thought Inglorous Basterds was far and away the best film on 2009.

Just finished watching it,very good film. I do however agree that Inglorious Basterds was probably better, just my opinion obviously.0 -
I'm gonna disagree. I loved them both, and I thought Inglourious Basterds was an amazingly well made, tight film. Especially for Tarantino. But the problem with Tarantino is that he edits his own material and well, he could have shaved off probably 10-15 minutes.
The Hurt Locker was a nearly flawless film, I thought. The writing, acting, direction, and editing (esp sound) was so tight and seamless that it just came together better in the end for me than Tarantino's work.
I do have to say that The Hurt Locker was ruined a little for me by my husband's best friend who is an EOD tech soon to be deployed who debunked all of the stuff the guys in the film do....

it was an excellent movie on all fronts for me ... great performances, great writing, filming and story ... the subtext for the movie for me was the pressure soldiers face over there ... which shouldn't surprise anyone that they come back a bit messed up ... as for whether it should win ... my favourite film of last year was the fantastic mr. fox ... of the nominations - i didn't see 3 i think ... of the ones i saw i would rank the top 3 as:
inglourious basterds
the hurt locker

I'm going to have to check out Inglorious Bastards0

(**SPPOILER**)I thought it was an alright movie. The filming, editing and cinematography were great. And i thought it dealt with an important issue, but it didnt seem to go anywhere. I felt it lacked plot and overall character development. I liked how it showed the main character, however, falling deeper into a hole. Overall, the movie just left me wanting something more though. The only memorable scene, I thought, was the sniper part in the middle.
it was a better than average movie in my opinion, but best picture of the year? No. however, it wasnt up against much.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -
SPOILERS
Pretty much agree with JP's post ... I'll go a little further ... I fell asleep during Hurt Locker.
The only scene I really liked was the sniper scene with the Ralph Finnes cameo.
The scene where the main character goes off base ... seemed wildly unplausible.
Another thing that pissed me off, on the front of the DVD cover are pictures of Guy Pearce, Ralph Finnes and David Morse ... all actors who I really like ... and none of which that were in the movie for more than 10 minutes. That annoyed the fuck out of me."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

CRAPatar sucked- I could write better dialogue if I had cerebral palsy with a hint of autism.0 -

Did anyone seriously go along to a James Cameron 3D Sci-fi blockbuster expecting good dialogue?! I went to check out the special effects, and I wasn't disappointed. I dunno if it's just me, but I would never go into a film like that with high expectations for an original story and impressive dialogue.0
