I have recently bought a storage portfolio case and well,it turns out not enough mylar sleeves. I have been unrolling and flattening my posters two at a time using the original packing paper for protection and heavy books on each corner. All have worked out well and some of these are from the Yield tour - back when you could buy them from the VHC for $10-20 each (and they stayed on the website for days or weeks before selling out).
Structurally- if stored as original and unhandled - they are fine. The older they are, the longer they will take to flatten. Some may be several days or even up to 10 days to flatten.
Long term, if you have a collection worth saving and can afford it, my advice is drop the bucks and get a good case and storage sleeves. I get to view them safely and I sleep a whole lot better at night knowing they're safe. Especially during hurricane season in Florida :-)
Enjoy.Perfect lefts come rolling in...loyal believer since '920 -

This is a great idea and worked really well for me!! BTW, I just plunked down the cash to get my first poster framed--- LA Klausen. $154 later, I can't wait for the next 2 weeks! Had a lot of fun picking out the mat, and the lady was SO nice. When I told her I had about 15 posters to frame, she gave me her discount plus threw in Conservative Mounting (or whatever) for free! Still, 154 bucks is a lot of money. I have a Horkey/Burlesque Arcade Fire poster that I kept rolled up for just over 2 years and I finally got around to framing it in January. If you look really closely, you can see that the print has some minor roll marks in it. Lame.
I would highly suggest keeping your posters flat, if possible.0 -

posters rolled will start to want to stay rolled the longer they are well, rolled
the tubes and kraft paper are some of the shittiest and most acidic protection. Yes the tubes keep them from getting smushed, but the acid they are seeping into your print will probably turn them yellow fatser.
You can buy mylar bags on ebay big enough for the posters, I get mine from ken and judy:
http://myworld.ebay.com/kenjudy
they claim they are acid free...we'll see in a couple decades I guess. They sell all sizes, but the big ones to fit posters like a Horkey are a bit more.
once you get these sleeves you can get portfolios to store them in, and just lay it flat closed like under your bed etc.0 -
Any other sites for something good to keep posters in besides tubes..thxConversations getting dull
