Does anyone have any input as to a reliable, durable, but semi inexpensive PA systems out there??
I dont need anything that will blow the roof off of my house, but something that I could take out for a possible open mic night.... Or shoot me a PM if anyone has one for sale....
thanks ,
dave

First off, an open mic should have a PA system... otherwise, it's just an open stage, sans mic.
I always recommend the following for situations like this: Yamaha speakers, with a Soundcraft Gigrac powered PA head. If you want cheaper than that, I can't recommend it. For acoustic stuff, the Gigrac 600 is plenty of power; if you've got drums & bass, then you may want the power of the Gigrac 1000. For acoustic stuff, look for speakers with 10" or 12" woofers; for anything more, get a 15".
My alternative option is to get a smaller mixer and run powered speakers, like JBL Eon's or Mackie SRM450's. Prices end up being pretty close to the same as getting a PA head and passive speakers.
Don't skimp on the mic, either... get a Shure SM58 at the very least....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0 -

was thinking about this , but not sure how great it is , plus I would like a mic and some speaker stands for that price....*Marker in the Sand Fanclub * HNIC

Not familiar with that system... the link you posted had reviews, read those and make a decision. Honestly, there isn't much in the "budget" PA range that I'd recommend.
Also, don't be afraid to watch eBay, Craig's List, etc. for used gear. Sometimes you can find a deal on used gear that's not too hard-used....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0
