Dave Chappelle impersonated Eddie Vedder last night

DC did stand up in Oaktown last night until 5:15 this morning - no exaggeration. I was incredibly lucky to banter with him on at least 10 different topics. He talked about "white movies" and gave an example of "Into the Wild." When I told him how much I loved the film, and even moreso EV's soundtrack, he made fun of how sad both were (in a really, really funny way that had no disprespect to the story of Chris McCandless). From that point on, he reapeatedly made up songs in EV's voice tailored to his jokes.

A truly memorable evening!

Guess you had to be there. No sound clips from it?

  • Cool story. Did Dave talk about his notorious fall from grace?

Dave is kind of a serial marathon joke teller. He held the record until Dane Cook broke it.

    ~!~ Peace ~!~ Love ~!~ Pearl Jam ~!~
  • No clips - security was super strict about not messing with cell phones. He's done two week stints every year here for three years, but nothing ever gets captured for youtube.

Yes, he makes fun of his 50 million dollar fall from grace throughout a lot of the show.
  • funny enough, my family and I were just talking about chappelle about 4 hours ago. i have long quoted alot of chappelles political rants and my parents viewed the Killing Them Softly concert on comedy central the other day. alot of those things are hilarious. the thing about him and chip smoking pot and chip going up to the cop and asking for directions, the baby selling crack at 2am in a dangerous neighborhood, the "sprinkling crack powder" on any black person thing.

    hilarious.

didnt know he was still touring. I know a few years ago he randomly appeared in portland unnanounced and did a quick routine, but it ended up being like 10 min, because the soundsystem was bad

    1. How come there is a PJ fan that we don't know in San Francisco?
    2. How in the world I didn't know Dave did a stand up in Oakland!?

What luck! Yes, Chappelle is a HOOT.
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

"what a long, strange trip it's been"
  • 1. Dave C's "fall from grace" was his own doing. It wasnt like Tiger Wood's fall...It takes sme very serious soul searching to come to the realization that $50 million wouldnt make you happy. He could have taken the money like most people would have. Respect to him for having some courage and doing what he felt was right for him. ( cant say I would have done the same.) :?

    2. Dane Cook blows.
I sometimes wonder if they know that I'm gone...

    1. I bet we have mutual pj friends.
    2. You can catch him one last time tonight at "the new parish" in oakland. Go to their website.
  • I'm so jealous, he was one of my favorite comedians! To see him do that material and be up there for that long would have been amazing!

He and EV are similar in that they both have a moral compas that has influenced them to not conform to the industry in exchange for mo' money. I hope DC comes back by doing an HBO special, or better yet an HBO or Showtime series that has no limits on content as Comedy Channel did...

We need a registry of Bay Area PJ fans. I don't know any of you, yet you all are undoubtedly awesome since you like pearl jam.

I think he broke the record. He ended up adding one last show sunday night that began at 930, and people have posted that when they left at 5am and he was still going!

Here's what he and I mostly bantered about, all of which was initiated by him - i've had a perma-grin ever since the show ended =):

    1-me being a prison psychologist
    2-SF culture
3-how fascinating it'd be to be his shrink and how much i'd charge (i said i'd pay him)
4-white movies like "Into the Wild" and EV's soundtrack, which resulted in his singing his own lyrics in EV's voice repeatedly through the show (this had me laughing hysterically)
5-his recommendation to play psychological thriller music while i walked back to seat from restroom
6-if he could borrow my mustang
7-the meaning of his muslim tattoo
8-his preminition that i'd be pregnant soon
9-what it'd be like if he had a baby with me and visited him/her every once in awhile
    10-his baby daughter
    11-our dogs
12-the difference between schizophrenia and multiple personalities
FUCKING UNFORGETABLE - AND RIGHT UP THERE WITH MY PJ/EV SHOWS! - he also said he'd like to see an EV show live and that he thinks he'd like it.

did he talk about the tiger woods scandal?

i really would love to hear what he has to say about that and the first black president.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
