I personally am I big fan of vintage turntables from 70's ish era. Dual, Pioneer, etc. I currently have and use a Dual 1219. It' actually the one that is on the homepage of this website however it's not an exact replica. Certain features have been added to the one here on the website.
Sounds and works amazing. I just get it greased and serviced every one in a while and it will last another 40 years.
These like anything else can be had in a wide variety of price ranges. Just need to research and be a bit more careful when buying something of this age but it's well worth the effort.0 -

Rega is great quality and relatively affordable, i think you can get one for around $400! I actually have a Goldring GR 1.2 and it is amazing, pretty much a Rega P1 clone with a better cart.
I also have a Hitachi PS-38 which im in the process of fixing up, hopefully it will make some sweet music as well.Enjoy difference. Without it we're all boring!0 -

That's a horrible reccomendation. He's probably looking for something that won't destroy his records.0 -
I recently bought a Pro-Ject Debut III and love it. If you keep an eye on insound.com, they often have pretty good sales (google Insound coupons or follow their twitter account). I was able to get 20% off and free shipping, so a $350 turntable for $280, not a bad deal...
Rega was mentioned earlier and is another solid brand. Doing a little research can go a long way, but I think you'll find that, in the long run, almost anything with a USB out and a non-replaceable cartridge isn't worth the $$ you'll save. Quality and upgradeability means your turntable will last a long, long time, and you can always record your vinyl through your receiver (headphone or RCA out to 2.5mm jack on a computer).0 -
my baby is a roksan radius 5 not cheap but looks great and plays great

Check Guitar Center, they have some good cheap ones and ones with USB ports to connect to your computer. The important piece to a record player is a good cartridge, which may cost more than the record player in itself.

Just ask some of your coworkers over 50 if they have one they want to sell. Probably at least one has an old record player in their attic they'll sell you cheap. I got a 70s Technics this way for $25 and I passed on a B&O another guy had.0

Well it depends what you mean by reasonable pricing. I have a Denon DP-29F I got for $150. Works pretty good. I also have a Dual 1218 that I got off ebay and I absolutely love it. I prefer turntables that are at least 30 years and older. haha.0

A NICE one start from $300, but you can buy a good one around $150-$250."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it"

Rega, the P2 or P3...very happy with mine through the years, and they're on the lower scale of high end, cost-wise. So you don't have to take out a second mortgage or anything...and you're getting total QUALITY of sound, which is the whole point. Good luck!
