so far jb is down on triple a and alt charts. and up on active and hot ac charts. but not by much. and 2 songs passed it on the hot ac. i was checking on allacces the hot ac stations that were leaders in playing JB. And a big portion was played overnight. i'm not an expert. but i think less people hear the radio at night. i would like to see more afternoon play.I miss igotid880

#91 Hot 100 w/ no bullet
#5 Rock Songs w/ bullet
#6 Alternative songs w/ no bullet
#27 Adult Pop songs
#43 Canadian Hot 100
All according to Billboard - http://www.billboard.com/#/song/pearl-j ... e/14127136
Gaining some ground in some places, losing ground in others. It's probably just about peaked. I think it's time to capitalize on JB's success and roll out single #3. Either that, or go on this 'rumored TV appearance' and play JB to shoot some life into it.
More importantly...ANNOUNCE SOME TOUR DATES!!!"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"0 -
I though it was #89 with a bullet when I checked this morning...was that last week?0

Hot 100 chart run: 99-92-88-89-91.
As T-Bone points out, "Just Breathe" moves up from #8 to #5 on Rock Songs, which is kind of a big move given the stagnant nature of that chart, especially after 18 weeks.
Unfortunately, this song has likely peaked unless someone does something to promote it. I don't think you'll see a third single. Any third single will have less potential for broad appeal than "Just Breathe" and will require significant promotion. There doesn't seem to be any appetite for that.I gather speed from you fucking with me.0 -

I don't know why this song is not in the top 10 in the hot 100. Maybe it still has a chance.I miss igotid880 -

i have been hearing this song on slacker radio as of late
which is odd , they usually dont play alot of pearl jam unless it is a station you create with pearl jam as the lead artist, everytime it comes on at work i sit there and think this song is amazing one of my favorite PJ songs of all time and it is one of those conversion songs, what i mean by that is someone who doesnt know pearl jam or listen to them would instantly go who is this? i have to get this album, thats how good it is for me0 -

I completely agree with you about this being a conversation song. It's a real good point. Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

I agree that this song "may have" peaked. What I don't understand is how it's moving UP on the rock charts. How is this possible?
Also, for more people who know more about charts and whatnot, are trends typically volatile or straight? In other words, it seems like for the most part, on Top 100 (atleast), Just Breathe moved down fairly consisently, and now has begun to move back up, although slowly. My question is, can it be the case that a song moves up down up down.... then all of the sudden takes off moving down rapidly? I'd be curious to see how a song like Use Somebody did over time. How it entered the Top 100, and how it moved around once inside. Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

Once upon a time, in the pre-Soundscan, pre-BDS days, the Billboard Hot 100 was very orderly. Songs progressed up the chart until reaching their peaks, then steadily descended until exiting the chart. Up-and-down movement was unusual, and it was extremely rare inside the top 40. When Johnny Hates Jazz dropped from #2 to #3 with "Shattered Dreams" in 1988 but kept its bullet, and then moved back up to #2 the following week, chart-watchers reacted like they had seen Halley's Comet.
Nowadays, however, the Hot 100 is very volatile in terms of up-and-down movement. Ironically, it's also a lot less interesting.I gather speed from you fucking with me.0 -

The way airplay is counted on the Hot 100 is weighted based on audience. If a song is played 20 times in a given week on a top 40 station with an average audience of 100,000, it gets credit for 2,000,000 "audience impressions." If the same song is played 20 times in a given week on a rock station with an average audience of 20,000, it gets credit for 400,000 audience impressions. Rock stations generally have much smaller audiences than top 40 stations, so rock airplay will only get you so far on the Hot 100. That's why crossover to top 40 stations is necessary for a song to be a big hit on the chart.I gather speed from you fucking with me.0 -

i've always wondered about whether it was spins or audience impressions that helped with the chart. because i would see a song have less spins than another song. but have more listeners.I miss igotid880 -
