Netherbound

I walk in both worlds
but yet I belong to neither

I understand happiness
but keep it just out of reach
I know how to love
but refuse to be loved
I feel the pain of the world
and I hold onto it
I understand friendship
but can not hold on to friends
I can see the weight carried by others
and feel I must also be forced to carry it
I sense the sorrow felt by those I love
and I force myself to absorb it

I walk in both worlds
but yet I belong to neither

I can see the beauty in all things
but won’t allow myself to be apart of it
I know the pain I have caused
but can not bring myself to stop it
I know right away those I can trust
and I know by me they will never be trusted
I know the gentle art of kindness
yet I refuse to accept it
I know that time heals all wounds
but will not allow myself the time to heal
I understand the concept of warmth
but still, I keep the cold inside


I long to feel at home,
I dream of being at ease
I lust for the “human condition”
and pray for one ounce of relief

I walk in both worlds
