I heard this song 3 times on the radio today and I'm only in the car for about an hour....That's pretty heavy rotation, I'd think... :)

Just Breathe is currently sitting at #1 on Triple A Radio and #9 on Alternative Rock Radio.

I'd say it has been successful so far. BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Just Breathe enters the Top 100 Charts at #99.

To be more specific, "Just Breathe" debuts at #99 on the Hot 100. It also moves up from #130 to #111 in digital downloads. It still hasn't cracked the 75-spot Hot 100 Airplay chart.

Yea it's almost there. I just hope when it gets to that point. Radio stations don't decide to stop playing it. If it really wants to go to the next level. They might have to perform it on some show.

I figured out that I really, really like this song when I'm stoned. Every time I hear it in that condition, I love the shit out of it. Every time I hear it sober, its seriously just "meh" for me.
Twenty-ten watch it go to fire!!!

That portends another nice move up the Hot Digital Downloads chart, which will mean a corresponding move up the Hot 100.

I heard it at a restaurant in Providence, RI this past weekend. I don't know what station...don't think it was terrestial radio. Maybe a sattelite station or just the playlist of the bar / restaurant. It was all pop stuff.

I heard it in a restaurant about a month ago too. It seems to have crossed over. I'm glad. It's a great song.

"Just Breathe" will move up from #111 (18,044 downloads) to #98 (19,920 downloads) on Hot Digital Songs. Last four weeks: 193-130-111-98. The song has been downloaded a total of 186,102 times. Although the song moved up fewer spots on the chart this week (13 notches) than last week (19 notches), it actually increased its number of downloads by a greater percentage than last week (up 3 percent last week; up 10 percent this week).

"Just Breathe" is still short of the Hot 100 Airplay top 75, but it gained 800,000 audience impressions this week.

No word yet on the Hot 100.

I just started listening to the radio again at work and Just Breathe gets a ton of radio play in Northeast PA. 97.9X is playing it a lot. I'm kind of shocked, but it is doing well here, not sure about anywhere else. They usually play some more of the rare singles, I Got Shit, Not for you, Dissident, Glorified G, Given to Fly. Every once in a long while, In Hiding.

This song just continues to climb the charts. I really think it will probably peak in late-February, mid-March. By that time, it may be up towards the top of a number of these.

It was genius to release this song. Let's face it,Backspacer is the first time Pearl Jam have gotten singles correct since Yield. Even then, I wanted Low Light released.... so Backspacer may be the best choice of singles, ever.

And yes, I'm not a fan of the fixer, but I will admit, it was a very smart choice.
Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

lowlight would have been awful as a single in my opinion. i love the song. i just see no way radio would play it.

i wonder if february and valentines day will cause a spike in airplay....as cheesy as that sounds

  • I don't understand how GOT SOME hasn't replaced The Fixer in the charts... it blows The Fixer away.. doesn't it?

Bingo, exactly what I was thinking. Although, I love the Fixer :)

I'm not sure how much more this song will peak, but it has been a great success for the band. Like someone mentioned previously, I cannot remember a second single from an album get this much exposure in a long, long time...maybe Yield era.

Yeah, probably not since Wish List which did pretty well I think.

Wishlist peaked at #47 on the Billboard 100 and #6 on Modern Rock Radio.

I'd say Just Breathe has a little way to go but it has been a success so far.

I do like how the OP gave the song 5 whole minutes of air time on the radio before declaring it a bust. Pardon, I meant "dclaaring."

I realize we are talking big picture here in terms of promotion, but what I find a shame is the lack of presence from the band as Just Breathe takes off.

It seems just as that song was released and as it has gained momentum Pearl Jam is totally gone.

Now they are doing Europe and it seems highly likely that they are touring NA, and I'm sure once those things start to happen then it will be like they never left.

It's just a part of me wishes they were doing the promotion circuit still. Getting the word out about Backspacer.

(and yes I realize they featured a song on a tv show recently).

I don't know I just don't feel the push for this album is close to what S/T was. And with Just Breathe doing so well I hope they don't miss an opportunity to reach out to more fans.

Yeah, but that's a little deceiving b/c Wishlist's chart position was influenced by CD single sales, which were always big for PJ but really don't exist anymore. Hardcore fans like us would always buy the singles b/c they usually had a B-Side that was a rare or unreleased track. Wishlist b-side was "U" I believe. That probably pushed it up pretty high in the Hot 100 when it wasn't nearly getting #47-type airplay.

I'd like to see how it measures up vs. Wishlist in terms of just airplay. It's probably close.

That makes no sense because it is all relative to today's format, which is digital.
