John Mayer on Pearl Jam's fame

"It's so interesting how success hits people and how they react to it. I remember reading Pearl Jam saying that after Ten, "I wish we hadn't gotten this big." I read that, and I go, "Well, then give it back. Someone else will use it." The idea that phenomenal success is something to wish away... I don't understand it. I hope I sell 100 billion trillion copies of whatever I put out, but if you're that guy, then next time out, don't write a hit song."

John Mayer is a douchebag. Technically speaking....he is an overhyped, oversensationalized, self promoting, tabloid craving, self absorbed........douchebag. What a waste of talent.

he's a moron and just another example of RS putting tabloid stars and teen fluff on their covers.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

I'm not a John Mayer fan by any means, but why are people so bitter about him here?

I do know he is a HUGE Pearl Jam fan and that makes him ok in my book. I don't know him personally so I can't be a personality judge.

  • He talks way too much and about everything. Who cares what you think about PJ John Mayer. I for one was not very happy to see his shirtless RS cover show up in my mailbox.

Why is it strange? He wasn't dissing the band. He was just questioning why they couldn't handle the fame.

he might be tolerable if he was a guitar player in a band rather than a solo act. Just play guitar and shut up.

I cannot speak to his musical ability, but the guy has a severe case of logorrhea. I would not attach any weight or value to what comes out of his mouth.

Now, the photos of him a while back in a "Borat"-style bathing suit were pretty damn funny.

Holy crap. The guy can't speak his mind in an interview? Really? He loves Pearl Jam. That is why he referenced them..

Guys that he half assedly apes are amazing. ie Clapton and SRV

The guy gets popular with a guitar strapped on and jams with a few legends and that makes him a great guitarist?

The anti-Pearl jam. He has NO class, NO integrity, No musical innovation and should be removed from society. He is everything that is wrong with the music industry.

thanks but I don't need fresh air. He talks way to much about everything. I isn't just his PJ comment, but he has to talk and talk about everything.

Seems a bit harsh. Some people are uncomfortable with fame, or at different periods of their life aren't ready for it. I like to play drums. Been playing for about 25 years, and I'm pretty good at it. Was in maybe 4 or 5 bands in high school. But I don't like to play live... but I still like to create music. I guess I'm thinking about an artist who is very shy, but brilliant. I think there's room for them too.

The interview would be pretty dull if he didn't respond to the questions.
