A new album consisting of 12 completed recordings by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix hits stores in March containing an hour’s worth of music never commercially available before.

Valleys Of Neptune features the last studio recordings by the original Jimi Hendrix Experience as well as the first sessions the guitar maestro recorded with Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox. The tracks were recorded at New York City’s Record Plant and London’s Olympic studios.

Scheduled for release by Experience Hendrix LLC and Sony Music Entertainment’s Legacy Recordings March 9, Valleys of Neptune marks the first release from the 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project.

Called the “opening wave” of the project, March 9 will also see the release of new deluxe CD/DVD editions of the classic Hendrix albums Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love, Electric Ladyland and First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. The discs will also be available in vinyl.

Each of the reissued Hendrix titles will include a bonus DVD featuring new documentaries directed by Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Festival Express, Beatles: The Studio Recordings) and feature interviews with Experience members Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, original producer Chas Chandler and engineer Eddie Kramer.

Originally recorded and newly mixed by Kramer, Valleys Of Neptune includes a cover of Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love” and “premier performances” of “Ships Passing Through The Night” and “Lullaby For The Summer” as well as an original Experience rendition of “Hear My Train A Coming.”

“Mr. Bad Luck” – an Experience track produced by Chris Chandler during the 1967 Axis: Bold As Love Sessions – is also included.

I'm ready! March will be an expensive month for me with the Hendrix releases, the White Stripes film and soundtrack and book, and a trip to LA for spring break. Better ask for more hours and days at work! Can't wait for Hendrix!!

Jimi Hendrix's 1969 Album Set For Release

    by Marcie Sillman

January 11, 2010 - Jimi Hendrix only released four official studio albums during his lifetime. Monday, Sony Music and the Hendrix estate announced a new album, to be released March 9. It's called Valleys of Neptune.

Most of the songs on the new release were recorded in London in a series of 1969 sessions. Eddie Kramer, a longtime Hendrix engineer, was there.

"This was the year that Jimi was trying everything to find the right direction," he says. Kramer says the guitarist was experimenting, and came to Olympic Studios to try out some new material.

"Jimi was jamming with different musicians," Kramer says. "I think he had the concept of a new album that would follow from Electric Ladyland."

The tapes have languished in a London vault for the past 40 years. Kramer says he knew they were there and went to look for them with Janie Hendrix, Jimi's half-sister and the head of the Seattle-based company that controls the musician's estate. The new album is slated to be the first in a series of Hendrix music and DVD documentaries the company plans to release.

Kramer says he spent a year remastering the old analog tapes, using state-of-the-art digital technology to clean up the sound. But not too clean: Kramer says he was trying to bring out the essence of Jimi Hendrix.

"This is Jimi, when he plays the guitar, and it jumps out of the track. The hair on the back of my neck just stands up," he says. "It's so raw and in your face."

Kramer says hearing the tapes again was a bittersweet experience. He says Hendrix was not only a client but also a friend.

"He was the greatest guitarist I ever had the privilege of working with," he says.

I know Jimmy is a guitar god but I looove his voice.
