Whats your take on these guys?

sounds to me like people seem to think they could be the next Radiohead or Coldplay or U2 in that they are selling out arenas.

Are they that good?

    i like them, but they can get theatrical and their lead tries to be Freddie Mercury often.

    When they released their debut album they were hailed, in some circles, as the next Radiohead. This never really materialised as their style veered away from what Radiohead were producing. They seem a very accomplished band and have been getting rave reviews for their live shows.

    The only thing that puts me off them is they seem to have opted for grandiose, almost rock-operatic style music on their last two albums.

    Missed them at Lolla in '07 because I chose to see Interpol instead (whom I love)....catching them in a few months at MSG with The Silversun Pickups....should be a good show.

    do you think they have the chops to be the next coldplay and next u2 as I stated in my initial post? They were a big part of the whole Twilight craze, and it seems to me they seem to be getting more airplay and attention nowadays. I had initially heard about them because I was interested in political music, and someone mentioned Muse. I dont think they are a niche band like that anymore, if they ever were.

    After loving bands like Pearl Jam and NIN...does anyone compare or have the chops to keep up?? No.....I take them for what they are worth. The only two "newer bands" for me (after the '90's) that really impress me with everything they do are MMJ and Interpol.

    I agree with you. Interpol and MMJ are great, I am a major fan. But are those arena bands? I am talking bands like a PJ, u2, NIN, Coldplay or otherwise, who can fill 20,000 seat arenas and bigger. In essence I am asking, does Muse have the potential, to play for 20,000 fans right now? In the future do you think they have that potential?

    i got "Showbiz" in 1999, and have been a HUGE fan ever since. Their live shows are brilliant, and i dont normally like stadium shows, but they have the songs to pull it off. Ive seen them live 7 times, and they are definitely up there with U2 in my eyes.

    their albums have an incredible range of music on them, and the over the top theatrics are just part of who they are as a group. Very early in their career i heard someone describe them perfectly: "if andrew Lloyd Webber created a rockband".

    They've already headlined Wembley Stadium in London with 50,000+, pulled it off no problem. Latest album is as said earlier a bit of a high concept but it is stunning. All 3 of the band are classically trained and it shows. 10 trillion times better than the utter dirge & drivel that is Coldplay.

    They're great. They have started to headline arenas in the U.S. and are a stadium act overseas.

    They're probably the only good arena act to emerge since the late '90s (Kings of Leon and White Stripes are really the only other two contenders).

    A great band that makes solid music that has widespread appeal. You don't really get that nowadays very often.

    I agree almost completely. My 2nd favorite live act.

    Brilliant band!!!

    Can't wait until Wembley stadium (which was definitely a large stadium when I was there last year) in September. I couldn't get tickets for their O2 Arena shows as they were like gold dust.
    I think that sorts out the arena issue

    Please don't compare Muse with Coldplay. Muse are in a different league.

    I was a "kind of" fan of Muse until I saw them at Penn's Landing in Phila. (tiny venue!) and they just blew the place away. I worked backwards through their albums. The only place where I see the Radiohead comparison is Showbiz - the 1st album, which is easily their weakest. The next 3 (Origins of Symmetry, Absolution, Black Holes & Revelations) are as good as rock music got in 00's. The latest is probably a little bit overdone, but still awesome and a lot of fun.

    Oh yeah, tixx for the FU (Wachovia) Center in Phila. (about 20,000) are all gone. I think they're doing ok for themselves, what with Matt Bellamny living on Lake Como with an Italian supermodel.

    As others have said, they've been selling out stadiums for years. They've been huge in Australia for years and I was into them before I moved to NA 6 years ago and was surprised no-one knew about them here, but that seems to be changing. I always say that Pearl Jam have my heart but Muse are my crack. I friggin love them. I've only seen them twice, once at Lolla and then opening for U2 at Giant Stadium (which is the only reason I went). They were better than U2, IMO and really know how to create a spectacular show. Can't wait to see them in Philly, NYC and London in September!

    Also, way better than Coldplay and the whole Radiohead comparison just irritates me.

    that's what i always thought. a little too queenish with not as good a guitarist, imo. but then i haven't listened to a whole lot, just couldn't really get into them, like someone else said it can be really large, grandiose operatic type things

    i've only ever met 1 Muse fan that didn't hate Radiohead, i'm sure there are plenty out there but it seems all but 1 that i've had contact with couldn't stand Radiohead and thought they were awful

    i really dislike when a band is said to be the next whoever....i don't think Muse is the next Radiohead just as i never thought Radiohead was the next Pink Floyd. i remember even hearing someone on tv saying Hanson were the next Beatles :lol:

    I love Muse and Radiohead, although I think Radiohead is kind of past their prime at this point. Like I said, I didn't even understand the comparison until I listened to Showbiz. Everything since by Muse sounds nothing like Radiohead.

    Matt Bellamy is an AMAZING guitarist! They're all incredible musicians, but like you said you couldn't get into it and I get that, Muse aren't for everybody. I like Radiohead but I never got into them like I got into Muse, the comparison irks me cause I think they're very different. Mostly I blame sloppy journalism for the comparison.

    I find Muse's music incredibly addictive, I just can't stop listening to them. Seeing them reproduce that live is just incredible cause they pull it off. It's interesting cause Matt Bellamy is not very enigmatic and rarely, if ever, addresses the crowd (mainly Dom does) but it doesn't matter cause it's all about that wall of sound, the lights and energy from the crowd going bonkers.
