But I've liked the Kaspar album's better. Pearl Jam sounded less than stellar at moments, but Riot Act sounded amazing, and made me realize they were still quite the potent band. An O'Brien album would be a back step for me.

    Sorry.

    Brendan O'Brien.

Yeah, I'd love to hear him on a PJ album again. He's one of my favourite producers.

You sir, are crazy. No seriously, the band was so disappointed with the sound (not the binaural technique) that they delayed the release of the album, flew to Atlanta and got Brendan O'Brian to fix 7 or 8 of the songs.

Grievance is the best example of what went wrong with Tchad Blake.

I think one of the reasons No Code is so special is because of the depth Brendan brought in the prodcution of it. He is a special producer. I also don't think he would have let Ed come out of the studio with the one take vocals he gave on Riot Act. Just listen the layering of vocals on Who You Are or In My Tree. I hope we get him this time.

  • Who produced Vitalogy? Was that brendan?

    If so, he's the man.

Ed's voice is buried and very muffled on Avocado.....on Vitalogy it's not.

Brendan did Vs. -> Yield. He is the one tha got such a live sound out of them by setting them all up in the room and playing live as opposed to laying down one track at a time.

I want him back then :D

Vs - Yield are their best sounding records.....

Thats been my biggest complaint with Riot Act and Avocado - the production, AVocado especially.

Ed's voice cuts through beautifully on Vitalogy and Yield especially but is so muffled and buried on RA and Avocado....

  • Too bad PJ did record a lot of their stuff one track at a time, especially the Brandon O days.

We all know the RVM story with dave, his speed, the hole in the snare, sticks against the wall, then the snare over the cliff.

Certain songs have been recorded live, while others are still one track at a time, especially the radio singles were one track at a time

and whether or not the band does it one track at a time or not, if there's a solo in the song, it is definately done on a different track at a different time, and sometimes even spliced together
