They were a real rock and roll band up through 1976.
and their original members reunion tour leg 1995-1997 recaptured that "hard rock' setlist of real good songs...
They influneced everyone from our own Mr. McCready and Mr. Cameron to other like Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Stone Temple pilotss.. etc...
But yeah, they pretty much sold out and lost touch with anything related to serious music during any points beyond or preceding these two time periods IMO...
Shameless is the word that comes to mind.."This here's a REQUEST!"

It WAS for charity but Gene did auction a kidney stone. Some nut paid $15k for it:
Gene Simmons Auctions Kidney Stone

by Kate Harper (CHARTattack)
KISS singer/bassist Gene Simmons says he auctioned one of his kidney stones for $15,000 U.S. on eBay.
"I passed a kidney stone and I put it on eBay for charity," Simmons said on the Today show yesterday (Thursday).
He then told Today's Kathie Lee Gifford to "settle down" when she wondered what would happen if he put "other body parts" on eBay.
We don't know if this is true and a Google search yielded nothing, but Simmons (real name Chaim Witz) has suffered from painful kidney stones before. He admitted in the Q&A section on his website that he's missed meet and greet appearances because of kidney stones.
Honestly, though, we really wouldn't put it past Simmons to do something like this. It's Gene Simmons, for God's sake.|9.5.93Gorge|2.6.95Moore|5.7.98AROSpace|7.21.98Seattle|7.22.98Seattle|10.21.00PHX|11.5.00Seattle
