It is quite disturbing... As you may already know, it served as the basis for Metallica's song (and subsequent video) "One". I recommend checking out the movie after you are done with the book....I turned my back...now there's no turning back...0

Yeah, I was a pretty big Metallica fan a few years ago. ( still like them, but found my love of PJ) It's defiantly a deep one. I will look into the movie for sure.

A terrifying, emotional, classic anti-war book from WWII. A great novel of protest of the Vietnam War and should be used in the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. Mettalica used the movie clips of the book for it's video *ONE*

I did a book report on this book when I was in 7th grade. The Vietnam war was taking place at that time also, so it was extra dark to me.Save room for dessert!0

The movie is sweet too. We brought this up when I was reading this awful article...

I read it in the 7th grade (5 years ago).
The first part of the book seemed really drawn out, but the second part of the book is chilling. It's one of the best books I've ever read, and has a very powerful message in it. Strongly recommend.0 -
Just finished it. is now my favorite book of all time. deep deep stuff. I may not sleep tonight.2006 - Washington D.C.

I loved it. Dark, disturbing, haunting - yes. But, amazing (to me) at the same time. I was mesmerized by Trumbo's writing.
I have recommended this book to friends countless times. Rarely has such a person actually finished it. Most find it too "upsetting."
This book forever altered my "sense" of consciousness, and thus how I experience it.0 -

Lol, well I've actually read it again since a few times. Don't think there's anything wrong with pushing yourself at a young age.0 -

I read that one too, isn't it odd how only certain books you can remember from so long ago. These kinds of books are the ones you sort of put yourself in or picture yourself in those situations in the book. They then become very hard to forget.
