Theres something about Immortality that never gets old. Or, maybe it gets better with time? I dont know but I must say this: the line toward the end of it that says "all good truants MUST DEcide" is effin FANTASTIC. The solo that The Master breaks down is beautiful. I could listen to this song on repeat for an hour strait and not get tired of it. Lovely thread! :D
  • I might have to agree with you on that.

  • Always in the Top 5 for me

But therefore that would mean Unthought Known isn't :)
  • this is the song i will probably choose to hear in a funeral. Really nice.

Immortality is one of few pj songs that really has atmosphere.. It is dark & heavy, they managed to put some real weight into it and the lyrics fit the mood perfectly. Pearl Jam really nailed this one in the studio.

Immortality is definately up there among the best!
    I will swallow poison
  • Hard for me to pick a top song, I've always gravitated toward Corduroy, but Immortality has done nothing but grown on me since it's initial release. LOVE it. Definitely one of their best ever, and Mike's on fire in that song. Great abstract Ed lyrics, too.

I agree with that too. I've been really into that song recently, especially. Been listening to the Atlanta '94 and New Year's Eve '92 performances a lot. Again, great song that Mike just owns. I wasn't into the reworked version they were playing the past few years...have they gone back to playing it the original way again?
  • I listened to Immortality after my mom's funeral 2 weeks ago and I finally got the line "Victims in demand for public show" PJ have REALLY helped me get on through this difficult time..

Easily one of the top five songs they've ever written. It gets no radio play and no recognition as being a masterpiece or anything yet i find this to be...a perfect song. The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful, great melody with lots of punch to it...and then there's the guitar work. The best part tho is this song live has a completely different feel but in a great way. mike always does a great job with the solos.

....i would have to add the version from alpine in 2003 to that list above.
  • I have my mind on O2 arena ´09  Amazing - but then again I was there
Run away my son. See it all. Oh see the world.

I haven't heard those two show's but I imagine its similar to what I experienced at the '92 and '93 shows. I also haven't heard it played recently, not to say that haven't played it, just wasn't on my radar. Curious to hear the '92 New Years and '94 Atl shows.

Do you think it lost attention being the last track on such an explosive record?
