favourite "supergroup"?

eeriepadave posed this question in the "Them Crappy Vultures" thread. I think it's a great question. While I love Audioslave's first album, I thought the second was blah and the third sucked. Temple of the Dog is an obvious choice, but my fave at this very moment?

Velvet Revolver. Travelled 16 hours to see them on the Contraband tour. Great show. Fantastic album. Libertad didn't live up to the "sophmore" hype, but saw them in my hometown on that one anyway, and they killed.

My all-time favourite? No question. Mad Season destroys them all. Probably the only VHS I still watch not only regularly, but at ALL. Live at the Moore is unbelievable. RIP Layne.

    Cream is an obvious answer, but I think it might be my answer.

    I would say audioslave because I absolutely loved them. I have a feeling though that if Chris Cornell paired up with anyone I would absolutely love it. I was more into Audioslave for Chris than the other RATM components.

    The two best supergroups (of the past 20 years), IMO, would have to be TOTD and Mad Season, with TOTD coming out in a not so distant first place. TOTD's album was one of the best rock albums ever made - yes a bold statement, but only my opinion. No question about it.

    Other than that, I was a big fan of Audioslave and Velvet Revolver. Yea I said it; they could jam. Were they as great as their former bands?? Fooock no, but they were fun to watch, created relatively simple rock music, and helped to fill the rather large void of today's rock music scene.

    I'm also really diggin' TCV at the moment, a great addition to the list.

    Beck & Flaming Lips
    the 1995 "Neil Jam" tour
    Daniel Johnstons touring band in 2008 (Daniel Johnston, Jad Fair, Sparklehorse, Scout Niblett, and the bassist from Yo La Tengo)

    Thom Yorke's current touring band would be up there too, if they had any recorded material!


    but Mad Season wins hands down for me too.

    TOTD was not a supergroup when the record was made

    never really liked "supergroups"
    but the traveling wilburys were good
    as was the firm with paul rodgers, chris slade and jimmy page
    and I am embarrassed to admit that dug asia for a few years back in the 80s

    easy pick for me too.

    some of the best guitar-playing mike ever did, layne staley at his finest, mark lanegan pops in... it's incredible. it sounds more like a band than most side projects ever do.

    Mad Season easily.
    Looking forward to getting Them Crooked Vultures.
    Monsters of Folk live is great.
    The Dead Weather is a great side-project, not necessarily a super-group.
    You could almost put QOTSA's Songs for Deaf up there since they always have a changing lineup.
    A Perfect Circle would also be added as another great side project.
    Velvet Revolver was great, but unfortunately the egos got in the way in the end.

    I'd go with Cream or the Wilburys. if you want to count sheer talent. Hands down the wilburys.

    Like I said I personally preferred Audioslave. 3 decnt albums. Great live. Actually I think I saw them at least 3 times.

    Temple and Mad Season were also real good, but they only put out one album. Which is what i think Them Crooked Vultures will do.
