Mike using a Moderne

I see Mike was using a Gibson Moderne in the pics from Philly on Halloween. He was using it on Whip It because the picture has him in the Devo outfit. I don't know if he used it on anything else.
A real oddball guitar from Gibson. They made very few in the 50's and some remakes in the 70's or 80's. They never caught on.

They probably bought them specifically for Whip It. I think Stone was playin one, too.0

I think it's far more disturbing to watch Jeff play a Steinberger headless bass! That almost gave me a heart attack.0

It probably was not a real one. It was probably made by Mike Lull or someone like that. Or purchased by the band knowing it was a knockoff. There was an article recently in Premier Guitar about these Modernes. There are supposedly none known to exist in any consumer hands. There are many famous guitar players that have and claim to be original BUT they will not give up to anyone for close inspection.
There is a name give to these 'clone' guitars. I forget what you call them. But usually they meet or excel in quality/playability of the guitars they clone because they were custom built from scratch and/or existing parts.http://www.5against1live.com
