I'm listening to Lost Dogs again and I'm always amazed at how good of a record it is. Does anyone else love it as much as I do? Top 5 PJ record easily right?

it's hard to rate it against other albums being that all the songs are from all different periods in their career...but the shit is dope none the less!!

I just find it astounding that these were essentially throwaway songs deemed not good enough for albums. Bands would kill to be able to write songs like that!

so true...also how many bands can play 99% of album tracks at a gig ..most bands have 2-3 song from a album they would play..forgetting the rest..pj albums are so strong any song could be a single and every song could be played live..is there a pj song thats never been played live? Hey Foxymophandlemama at a guess

Yeah..I can definitely see that. It's really not fair for the other albums because, as another posted stated, it takes really strong songs from throughout PJ's career. You've got Sad, Down, Hard to Imagine, Fatal, Footsteps, Strangest Tribe, Other Side, Alone, Education, Yellow Ledbetter, Dirty Frank and other amazing songs all on the same album!

agree completely, but i have been listening to mtv unplugged...well constantly and is there really a better version of black or porch, i have 27 bootlegs and there isnt on theses. the emotion on black always gets those hairs up.

Have to agree its a great album. Down and Sad are favourite tracks but the whole album is great. I very often reach out for it when I want to listen to something.

When this album came out, I made an edited 1CD "highlights" version, featuring all the songs that were "new" to me... in other words, omitting all of the previously released songs, and it was a pretty good mix if I do say so myself. It went something like this...

All Night
Sad
Down
Hitchhiker
Don't Gimme No Lip
In The Moonlight
Education
Undone
Hold On
Fatal
Other Side
Sweet Lew
Brother
Bee Girl

I already knew Down, Other Side, and Undone from the Riot Act b-sides, but they were all still new and fresh to me. Thanks for reminding me how awesome this compilation is. What's amazing is that PJ could release another 2CD rarities set or two. They have so many left-over tracks, it's amazing. I'm still curious to hear some of these songs that only exist as markings on the tape boxes on the picture inside Lost Dogs: No Cursing, Your Face, Fallen, The Little Word, The Big Word, Morning Song, Incompatibility, Thrill, I'm sure at least a few of those were "working titles" to songs that have been released.

Lost Dogs is great. So many of these b-sides could be another band's best and most popular song. I was pleasantly surprised at the time of it's release with how many songs were new to me....the Binarual songs, Sweet Lew, Hold On, Hitchhiker.

I still don't get why Leatherman and Crazy Mary weren't included....Leatherman in particular.

Leatherman definitely should have made it, but I'm glad they kept that studio version of Crazy Mary off. It's awful, only PJ song I have to shut off if it comes on the radio. I think it's because of the backup singer.

A live version of CM would have been great, but out of place, since there aren't any other live tracks.

I'm not much of a fan of the studio Crazy Mary either but with the inclusion of Gremmie and Leaving Here, it would sort of fit. But I still have no idea why Leatherman isn't there. It's the only b-side (not counting Out of my Mind which is live) that's not included.

I couldn't disagree more.

I'm as big a PJ fan as they come going back to '98 and every time it comes on the radio I give it another shot and try to get all the way through. Can never make it. There's just something about that studio recording that doesn't work for me. Love it live though.

Massive Lost Dogs fan here as well... in fact I would say that it's probably had more play time for me than any other PJ album since it was released. My original CDs skip like mad now through all the use they've had in various cars and players, kinda wished I had made CDr copies and just use those but oh well, I will just buy it again

It also means a hell of a lot to me because it got my wife properly in to PJ, for about a year solid from it's release we always had LD playing in the car when we drove together. I think I have as much an emotional connection with that album as I do any "proper" PJ studio album. Absolutely love it.
