    Cropduster rules
  • RIOT ACT is a very fine album
    one of the best
  • i used to blame it on production, but now i think the band just sounds tired and disintrested. i also think the songs are incomplete and needed more polish, but it was rushed.

at live shows, these songs come alive. i like most of the album live, but hardly listen to the studio.

oh and Cropduster is the worst song on the album. Cropduster haters represent!

    Worthy tunes:
    The first 7 tracks

    OK:
    1/2 Full
    Green Disease

    Bad:
    Every other song.

  • Nothing wrong with Riot Act at all.
Used to be my favourite PJ album once I stopped listening to people say its the worst one and listened to it for myself.
    Best Album art IMO.

    Oh... and Cropduster <3 haha
  • Certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I personally like all their albums each one is different from the last, and Some do take longer to appreciate than others do,but by the time when you figure it out it;s time for a show and it makes it that much better.

I dont get the hate for cropduster
its one of my favs on that record
I love the vocals at the end
    the moon is rolling round.........

riot act, backspacer, and self-titled are on equal grounds for me
Each has a bunch of songs I really like as much as any other PJ songs, and a bunch I do not really care for

And I may be in the minority, but I do not care for the production on backspacer
i wish the rest of the song was as good as the "...the moon is rolling round.." bit!

  • I love Riot Act. I don't love Get Right but that's the only song I don't love. To me, the Green Disease, Help Help, Bushleager trilogy is a gooder. I kind of ignored this album for a long time because I listened to a lot of people who said is wasn't good. Boy was I stupid. Recently I've re-discovered it and honestly, I think it's probably in my top 3 PJ albums of all time. Who in their right mind doesn't love Love Boat Captain? It's even my ring tone. I think once you have more than 3 good songs on an album I call it a "classic". But that's just me. :D
wow - that reasoning would make most of the albums i've ever listened to classics!
eg) Avril Lavigne - Let Go (Losing Grip, Complicated, I'm With You); Backstreet Boys - Millenium (Larger Than Life, I Want It That Way, Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely); Black Eyed Peas - Monkey Business (Don't Phunk With My Heart, Don't Lie, My Humps), and I'm only at "B" in the shittest music in my iTunes collection! I never knew I owned so many classic albums ;) Haha just being an asshole - peace out dude.

No way Cropduster is the worst song on that album, it is far and away Help, Help. Its a skip every time. That is the only song I don't like on that album.

The only problem with the album is that it is all over the place, it never feels very cohesive.
    32 shows and counting...

I really love this song. BUT on the album they should have put more energy into the chorus. I love Eddies singing on Riot Act but Help Help should have had more energy in the chorus. It doesnt really sounds like he wants someone to help him... But this was added in the live shows so on the 2003-boots it's fucking great!

BUt maybe you don't like the live version either??

I think the production on Riot Act is really good. I think Ed's singing on Riot Act is bad. He sounds bored, tired and uninspiring.
  • He sounds bored, tired and uninspiring.

No, he sounds sad, calm and thoughtful! :)

I meant to say sad too.. I think people don't like it Riot Act so much because it is their saddest album, where else until Backspacer, Yield was their happiest album.

i'm gonna go ahead and sort of..disagree with you there.

    on another note,

Help Help is a decent song after the rough start. the last half is pretty cool. Cropduster is awful adult contemporary crap.

Just like Johnny Guitar... if the whole song was as good as the last minute... wow!

Someone said Cropduster is adult contemporary, hows that???

I think that an awe insipiring ep lies within Riot Act,

    Can't Keep
    Cropduster
    Ghost
    In the Moonlight
    I am Mine
    All or None

All or none is as good as either tune on Merkinball, and that was a killer little disc. Save the rest for a rarities disc down the road and go on as planned to release Avocado and Backspacer as a return to glory.

All in all, after Binaurals excellence, Id say the good times continue despite a few rum cuts.

Again... I'm not claiming to know better than Pearl Jam... but, why couldn't they have put songs that didn't make the 'Binaural' cut onto 'Riot Act'?
I mean, imagine if 'Fatal', 'Sad', 'Puzzles And Games' or 'Anything In Between' replaced 'Help, Help', 'Ghost' or 'Get Right'. It would have made 'Riot Act' a better album, overall, in my opinion. There are some great songs on 'Riot Act'... Save You', 'I Am Mine', 'Thumbing My Way', 'Can't Keep', 'All or None', 'Green Disease', '1/2 Full'... 'Arc'.
I guess it's art and I shouldn't have a say... as just some schlep that listens to it. And why they are the artists and I'm not.

Puzzle and Games made it onto Binaural.
