Has anyone read this? I read it first in 1987...have had a copy at hand since. My 17 year old daughter asked me for a cool quote for this project she is working on...so of course this is the book I pull out. What are your thoughts on it? I do love it so...and if there are any typos...please forgive... :lol: ...I've been drinking... :D

    I love it! Full of so many wonderful, inspirational quotes. I also love the way it is written with the words and images interwoven together. Beautiful. "Here we are, here and now, that's all there is.."

    Yes...the way the book was put together is very appealing to me. The art and words pull you in . It truly is lovely. The message is inspirational...ah to live in bodhi....that is my goal....much to shed...much to shed... :)

    I first read it in 1990. All of my friends at college had read it or recommended it. I showed it to a different friend a couple years later and she laughed at the ice cream cone image, and then I realized what fluff it was.

    Why fluff...I believe it's just talking about letting go of desires or at least having to fulfill all desires...one leads to another...no? Sorry you didn't like it...people like different things. I showed it to my brother, he is 5 years older than me, back in 1988...he didn't get it and laughed quite a bit...didn't change my perspective at all....

    I haven't read it for almost 20 years, but when my friend laughed, if I remember correctly, I realized that it didn't ground me in the here/now. There's a lot to be said about living in the moment. I studied Haiku for a few years, and it's all about that. But the Ram Dass book, if I remember correctly, was a few paces beyond practical. I don't remember it having tangible goals, but rather it focused more on perception, exercise of the mind/heart - which is beyond time, and needs a little assistance from the tangible to be truly here/now.

    Also, as it was the big hippie-want-to-be book, it just seemed like I was sucked into a cult made of college age frauds.

    I understand where/how you could see that. I looked at more from the perspective as living without attachment to actions or outcomes. More as a service, if you will. Like any book...you take what works for you... the rest...leave it behind.

    I find it funny you say cult...to me it doesn't fit that but there are those very similar to this that are. Anyway...I use it for inspiration like any other book. I am a person who doesn't live by one way...yes...that's right...I've made up my own religion...all welcome :lol:. Really though, fun and inspirational, this book has that. I am all about a good read.
