Cob wrote:No I went to the simulcast at Hogg Auditorium, it was real good, they had they sound system cranked up, free beer, sodas and bottled water for everyone. The people that put on the ACL tapings are some of the NICEST people you will ever meet and I would just like to thank them for setting up only the 3rd ever simulcast for an ACL taping (DMB and Coldpaly were the others) they didn't have to do that, much less provide refreshments for us THANK YOU guys.
Absolutely. That was so much nicer than I thought it would be. Great job by those guys.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

One thing I forgot to mention, in regards to the "greatest hits" setlist:
Friend of mine at the show hasn't seen PJ since the last time they were in Texas, six years ago. The song he wanted to hear the absolute most was Corduroy. He was kind of bummed when I told him that they hadn't really been playing that song much on this leg.
Then, to see his eyes light up when Cordoroy is the second song out of the gate ... worth it.
Sometimes, these things aren't about those of us who have been fortunate enough to see this band a gazillion times. Sometimes, it's about the folks that haven't seen them in a while.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

The show was amazing. I had so much fun. I'm sure people here have already covered the bulk of the greatness for the show; so I'll throw in a few Personal highlights:
Red mosquito with Ben
Hearing Present Tense (Finally)
Eddie's commentary was pretty entertaining too.
Mountain song with Perry Ferrell (sorry if I mispelled his name, I'm dead tired right now.)
Other acts I enjoyed: Dodos, Clutch, Toadies, Ben Harper and R7, Dead weather (saw half sets by Ben and DW) figured that was the best way to handle the delima.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

First Pearl Jam show, and it was fantastic. I don't really have much to add after everything else that's been said...
The band was on fire, the setlist was mainstream yet fantastic, and it was the perfect way to end the festival.
I've got some pictures from the front row uploaded on my Flickr here:

This is a comment from someone who claims to be a casual fan, from the rollingstone review:
"That show was literally A HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE, right up there with a safari in Africa, swimming next to sea turtles, falling in love, and running a marathon."
Behold, the power of the mainstream set list!everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -
Pearl Jam , with a little help from Ben Harper, Perry Farrell , and sixty to seventy thousand people in severe need of bathing , gave the eight to ninety percent humidity a hail ( Hail , Hail ?) and hearty F-U . Considering the humidity , the very, very up tempo set was amazing to behold."Buy the ticket, take the ride"
Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
"If I wanted you to understand, I would have explained it better"

Flagg wrote:Slightofjeff makes excellent points. Could not have said it better. I was just happy to be there and see the crowd singing along and all those Texas shirts and flags waving and think "Finally!"
They finally made it back to Texas and we showed them the love.
Slightofjeff nailed it. Right on.
I was looking up at the "AUSTIN City Limits" banner next to the stage just as the band was walking out. Just as my focus shifted from the banner to the stage, the stage curtain opened and the new Pearl Jam Backspacer backdrop was revealed sending everyone into another level of excitement. I have seen the band 38 times in between the last two shows in Austin, but at that moment I felt like I was seeing them for the first time in 14 years. It was super emotional for me to have them back home and its something that I'll never forget.0 -

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. There's just something different about seeing the band in your hometown ... especially after such a long absence.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

We finally got to take our kids to a Pearl Jam show (can't afford to fly them all around the country) and they got it! We hung back so the baby's ears wouldn't get blown off and I must say the camera work sucked. Very few shots of McCready, Jeff and Stone, who is always so great to watch. It was a different kinda show, but it was a blast. At the beginning of the day when we walked in and saw the mud pit I was pretty sure we weren't gonna hang for the whole day, but so glad we did! Maybe our last ACL though. And I sure hope Pearl Jam comes back to Austin soon and gives us a real arena show.W. Palm Beach-1 08/00, Seattle Groundwork 10/01, Seattle 1&2 12/02,

Seconded.
For all the love that GA shows sometimes get on this board, there were definitely times last night where I wished this were an arena/amphitheater show. You just can't pay as good attention when people are constantly bumping past you, or shifting in front of your sight lines, etc etc.
Plus, it was hot and humid and muggy as shit. Being packed nipple-to-back with 70,000 smelly people wasn't that great, either. I mean, I survived, and it was a good show ... but I don't see how anyone could think it actually enhances the show to be unable to see large portions of it.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

I couldn't agree with this statement anymore. The Philip Glass intro music and lights against the opening banner was a chilling moment of anticipation. What a killer show last night. The band is totally ON at a level I have never seen them at before. ACL and C3 are going to have a tough time topping PJ's headline performance in the years to come ...
It was great meeting everyone from the board yesterday and hope that we'll see each other again soon. The connection between PJ fans never ceases to amaze me ...
Flagg, glad you made it!
Bryan, 1995 Southpark Meadows pics will be scanned in by the end of the week ...

Still thinking about how awesome the ACL show was..Thanks Pearl Jam0

I hope they put up a bootleg from this show, it was an amazing show and it made the 10 hours of waiting in the mud completely worth it. I hope they come back real soon.Philadelphia, PA 10/3/2005

That was such an awesome show! Considering it's the first time I've seen PJ in Texas it was even more memorable! I mean Red Mosquito w/ Ben and Mountain Song were just amazing! I am glad to see so many people enjoyed the show considering the conditions. Man it will be different going to ACL next year knowing PJ won't be playing there...Austin, TX0

It was a great show, my first big time festival show. ACL has a cool vibe. PJ still has amazing energy and Ed seemed to be in a great mood. The sound was great. I thought the festival was well managed although I couldn't believe there was no security pat down and I didn't see any bag checks. I didn't much mind the mud or humidity. However, I thought the crowd was weak. I was about level with the sound board but farther right. In my section most everyone was a statue, or too busy smoking weed, or too busy trying to screw their girlfriend or too busy trying to stay conscious while their boyfriend was trying to screw them. There were only a couple of time where the crowd really got into it on my side. I guess it's my fault for not getting closer earlier. All in all the boys still have it and I can't wait to see them in an arena where I have my own seat to stand in front of.0

Great show! Here are some pictures I took:

I was about 10th-15th "row" on Mike's side and surrounded by a mix of live PJ virgins and veterans. The people that had never seen PJ before were definitely blown away from the first note. The crowd around me was nuts throughout the entire performance. This was my 5th tour seeing PJ and I think they sounded better than ever. Stone has come alive! He was jamming with the other guys and moving around the stage all night long. I've never seen him like that. The new songs sounded great...much better than the youtube clips let on.
Highlights for me were: Present Tense, State of Love and Trust, The Real Me, and the new songs.
After the show, during the looooong 45 min walk to the shuttle everyone was talking about how great PJ was and that they were the highlifht of the festival. I was walking by a lady who had never seen PJ before and was amazed at how awesome they were. She said it was too bad they didn't tour anymore. Apparently, she thought that they had stopped touring in 95 after their feud was ticketmaster. She asked if they had toured in other states recently and I explained that they tour almost every year and had toured every year since 03. She couldn't believe it.
It was great meeting Flagg and Maia before the simulcast and I'm glad Flagg was able to make the show. Thanks again for the tickets and hope to see you again at other PJ shows or Dallas area fan gatherings.
Next up: Flying to Burbank tomorrow morning for 3 days of PJ this week.
