This would probably have been one of their best albums ever. Too bad the b-sides are better than some of the a-sides
not far off. Parting Ways, not so great either. What about 'otherside'? that was part of the Binaural sessions, right? I hope they play that one live sometime

Other Side is from the Riot Act sessions.

My only change would Of The Girl swapped with Rival. It seems more balanced than the original. When i first heard Sad i was blown away & then when i read it was taken from the Binaural i couldn't beleive it wasn't on there. Good album but with Sad,Education & Fatal it would have been a great. If Sad had been the first single i really do think it would have been on of their biggest songs ever. Sad is in my top 10 PJ songs, in fact i am going to put on now.

I agree, Sad is an incredible song. A bit puzzling that it didnt make the record.

Well, this post got everyone riled up. I think Binaural is a great album, but considering the great "b-sides" from those sessions, it could've been an all-time legendary album. Sad & Fatal are clearly superior to Breakerfall & Thin Air. Evacuation is rightfully a b-side the likes of Don't Gimme No Lip. Gods Dice is pretty good though - I probably could've left that on my original list.

I thought Fatal was left out of Riot Act. Am I wrong?

Being the three Riot Act b-sides were the three best songs from those sessions (in my opinions at least) i think it is a travesty they were left off that record.
I agree with cutting rival and evacuation on Binaural and putting in sad and fatal

"Binaural" is my least favorite Pearl Jam album, so there's definitely room for improvement. For the most part, I like the idea here, although I would keep "Evacuation" and relegate "Rival." "Rival" is monotonous. I'd open with "Sad," then "Evacuation," then the rest as you have it. Or move "Of The Girl" up to track 1.

"Soon Forget" has "hidden track" written all over it. I suggested this in another thread and was chastised for daring to suggest it was anything less than a masterpiece.

This thread prodded me to finally create a .m3u so that I could easily listen to the original track listing without moving any files!
  • I love Binaural just the way it is. This album is definitely one of my favorites, love how the themes of political, social, and personal unrest carry throughout the album - very dark and moody disc. I can't hear Insignificance w/o conjuring up the image of patrons in a bar playing their last tunes on the juke box while the world goes to hell outside - really reminds me of a great Douglas Adams or Kurt Vonnegut scenario from one of their books.

So, yeah, I love Binaural as is! I also love all of the great Lost Dog tracks from those Binaural sessions, Sad being one of their best ever! Now does anyone recall, will Binaural be one of the albums that gets the remastered/reissued treatment? I think that could make for a neat reissue - packaging all of the unreleased stuff, maybe the instrumentals from Touring Band (some of their best jams), and hopefully some other goodies that went unreleased. Can't wait for that one.
  • Also wanted to add that I just listened to the early Light Years demo for the first time in a while - love the final song, but the original demo is fantastic! It's like a different song! Would love to hear a better quality version of that outtake on the Binaural rerelease.

Binaural is perfact, as is. Evacuation is the only song with a weak moment.

The "left-offs" fit as good on Lost Dogs as they would on Binaural.

I'm gonna agree with the 5 dudes that made it and say the tracklist is the right one.

evacuation owns.. i thought i made this clear already :D

and yep, the original track list is brilliant.. Though sad is a great song, i think it would have changed the whole vibe of the album...

You did, and I agree it does own. It owns a very bad chorus. The bridge brings it home nicely, though.

I wasn't keen on Evacuation for a long time. It was always one of my least favorites off Binaural (along with Rival), but in recent years they've both really grown on me. I think they fit well w/in the fabric of that album.

I will agree with you though that I think Evacuation has a killer bridge, not so killer chorus. Sort of like Pilate!

more to the point, Sad/Letter To The Dead simply wouldn't have worked with the other tracks on Binaural,...

Sorry - it doesn't make any sense to me that Sad wouldn't have fit in with Binaural. It would've made Binaural better.

Also, Rival is awesome. Evacuation - not so much.

It makes more sense than putting it on there. Who are we to question the tracklist that's released? THAT doesn't make sense. If you don't like an album, you don't like an album(not sayin you don't) but to change what the artist had in mind is completely ridiculous, imo.
