that name will grace the hall of fame
Yes and not too long from now either. That shall be a holiday. I shall use a personal day at work in celebration. LOL
  • on a side note, i am a bit embarrassed to tell people my favorite rhythm guitarist is named Stone Gossard. What kind of name is Stone, anyway? And Gossard makes me think he's like some kind of Goose/Human hybrid.

j/k by the way. my first born son's middle name is Stone. :)

Do you know the story behind how they thought of Pearl Jam?
And no, it’s not from Ed’s grandma’s jam recipe.

Not comparing it to other shitty band names just saying it doesn't hit you like Guns and Roses, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, even something like 311. And there are many others.

hmmm. Metallica? seriously, you think that's an example of a GREAT band name? and 311? what is that, an area code? and I love, love, love, smashing pumpkins - but that's a really cheesy band name.

PEARL JAM IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. :)

Not to dis..but why is it perfect? Ok then how about some of the classics Led Zeppelin, The Doors, 3 dog night.

I truly and honestly believe Pearl Jam stacks up well against them. Oddly, I think hearing the real story of the name made it even better in my mind. It's an epic name somehow, and among the best I've heard... I think it sounds cooler than the beatles, u2, and any number of other famous names. it sounds kick ass.

  • it's better than splooge.

Actually, when I first heard their name, I assumed that it was a pseudonym for splooge and I thought they got one over on the record company and the public. So...there you have it, Pearl Jam are some dirty sexual scoundrels!

I honestly think it is one of the coolest names ever... especially knowing the meaning behind it... always thought it was cool from the get go... in fact it has always been synonymous with the standard of cool for me.

I always liked the double meaning of the word Jam... kinda indicative of the band to use a name that is a bit cryptic and has different levels of meaning... I like how there is a depth of meaning to the name but it doesn't show from the surface... Pearls are considered to be some of the most beautiful things created in nature... but they are formed over time and from waste (apparently)... so I think putting the name Pearl Jam is such a beautiful fucking kickass name....
  • I love the name Pearl Jam. I think it is a perfect fit for their music.

My vote for the best band with the silliest name goes to.......

    Pink Floyd.

C'mon, if they weren't such psychedelic kingpins, no one would ever stop laughing at that name.

I'm just glad they didn't choose Pearl Necklace (yes I know what it is) as a name, or Jam Jar, or Strawberry Jam, or Pearly Whites.

I've met a lady a few times who is called Pearl Lace, which I quite like. Although that would remind me of that group Black Lace, think that was in the 80's and they were very crap.

Didn't know that was the meaning of Mother Love Bone, mmm, bit strange.

Never really thought too much about it I guess, that's just what they were called.

Anyway think I'm talking crap, time for bed.
  • Hmm, never really though much of it, just figured a name is a name. I never thought of it as splooge either until I heard it refered to as 'pearl jam'.

The name Swollen Members used to always get a chuckle or two from people many years ago, but I think most are over that.
  • the should be called the Oneders (o'needers)

I really like Pearl Jam (name and band ;) ). always have.

even if I didn't know all the stories, true and made up, behind the name I would still like it. I think it sort of sticks out (not in a bad what-the-fuck-does-that-mean manner), it's easy to remember, easy to say. it's easy on the eyes too. :D

certainly much better than Mookie Blaylock.

  • Pearl Jam is a great name, lawnmower death not so good.
