i can barley finish amongst the waves and force of nature, as for supersonic, why use a riff you have already used (mankind) I think they spent 2 weeks on this album.
  • Love the new album. It will grow on you. Just curious as to why no mention of BOOM anywhere on the cd. Obviously he is not an official member. I am not sure he even plays on this album. Anyone know? It does sound like he is playing all over it though.

Yeah I can't either. Same with Unthought Known. I just can't bring myself to care. And I can't bring myself to look up tabs to the songs. I'm not the biggest Avocado fan but I sure as hell was obsessed with it the first month it came out. I was tired of Backspacer like 3 days before it was released!

But as I keep saying, seeing the songs live might change my opinion.

I think it is more of an Art/Music thing. Two people can look at the same peice of art- one see's something beautiful, and the other sees a bunch of paint thrown on a canvas. What is creative to one person is not to everyone. There are people the will not like this albulm, same as there are some who don't like Ten and No Code and Riot Act. Nothing wrong with any of that.

I agree with that. I still think they are taking some steps back though.

Even though I've been critical of Backspacer, I wouldn't call it a step back. It's like a step sideways...if that makes any sense.

Brendan O'Brien played all the keys, piano, etc, and he arranged the string & horn sections. Boom doesnt appear on the album. Boom's still playing live with them, so let's hope he does the new songs justice.

I always assumed the reason Riot Act is not played live much is because the songs just don't translate well live (generally). Most of the stuff on there is very downbeat. I LOVE that album, (the "novel" comment earlier is about as perfect a review of it there is), but i admit myself that live performances of most Riot Act songs are fairly flat. (You Are, Bushleaguer, Save You, Cant Keep, Arc and All Or None are astonishingly good live, the rest of the album...not so much). So i guess my point is, i dont need "atmosphere" on Backspacer if the songs are strong enough on their own, which they are.

Binaural & Riot Act saw the band experiment with their recording sound (droppin BO'B, using binaural etc)...Backspacer doesnt experiment with atmospheres or acoustics, but it does sound fantastic. And there's tons of subtle backing intrumentation, just like on Yield.

I said earlier in the thread that i dont see many similarities between Backspacer and Avocado: the one huge similarity i do see is that the Backspacer songs will sound fucking great live...if performances so far are anything to go by.

these lyrics are not even close to their best.

Have you even read the lyrics to this album?...they are incredible. Or do you just say they aren't good because this album is boring to you?
  • Avacado is one of my faves! This one I'm not sure about yet but I think it will grow on me. Love Amongst the Waves and Unthought Known

yes i have read the lyrics, otherwise iwould not have made the comment. Some of the songs have great lyrics, but to put this above vitalogy, no code, and riot act is laughable.

Yep. I totally agree with the person who started this thread. Backspacer is lame. Only "Amongst The Waves" is a classic. Why don't Eddie let Stone write more for PJ?

With most pj albums ill have my favorite songs and over time ill end up loving the whole album and not skipping a song. I am already getting tired of Backspacer and seem to be skipping most of the songs. This should have been a double disk with S/T.

  • Yeah i jokingly referred to it as Blandspacer. I say it in every thread

if you're saying it again and again in every thread, wouldn't that in fact make you, yourself, the 'Blandspacer'? :o
