I can't say enough about this record. I've listened to it several different ways...and it doesnt matter as long as you listen to it really loud! Just Breathe and The End are perfectly placed. Supersonic is a classic punk song and the rest is really good too. I was so ready for something optimistic from the guys and got exactly that. Did I mention you have to listen to it really loud?

    Agree!

FINALLY Ed opens up his lungs again for "Unthought Known"! He hasn't sung like that since Vs. He really needs to start singing like that again... big huge strong voice as opposed to all punk and screamy.

Rad album though! "Supersonic" is a highlight, very similar chord progression to "Habit" though... but I love "Habit" so it's OK (hahaha).

  • this album is great. some of the best, most high energy work in a while. the arrangements are perfect and it makes me want to keep turning up the volume!
  • It's really uplifting stuff. It doesn't get much better.

As i knew you would!

This album is a great one! it is fun and rockin yet Amongst The Waves and Unthought Known are like cold water on a hott day and man, The End just GETS you! Theres something for everyone. I think that alot of people here listened to Backspacer to find something wrong or be judging right away since its been 3 years. Cant ANYONE just listen to music to have a good time anymore???!!!! I can and i love it!!!
  • Absolutely blows my socks off.

I'm reading a lot of negative/neutral/non-plussed opinions on here today, and can't understand it. Maybe it's my frame of mind or the low expectations leading up to the album, but right since the first listen I've loved this and it gets better every time. I've already listened to it more than 30 times, and it just sounds sweeter and sweeter.
I haven't felt this amazing listening to new PJ for a long long time. This morning playing it on my drive to work I got choked up/teary at least once in the following songs: Got Some, Johnny Guitar, Just Breathe, Amongst The Waves, Unthought Known, Speed of Sound, Force of Nature and The End. It was a combination of: 1) thinking about how awesome it's gonna be hearing these live in November, 2) thinking about the words coming out of Ed's mouth, 3) soaking up the sweet riffs, chord progressions, JA bass action and some of the best drums I've heard MC play on any album.
This is not even a grower for me - it's already there!
    Sydney 3 1998; Brisbane 1 2003; Sydney 1/2/3 2003; Brisbane 1/2 2006; Sydney 1/2/3 2006; Melbourne 1/2 2006; Adelaide 2009; EV Solo Sydney 1 2011.
  • Although I'm not sure there are any 5 star songs (although The End, Got Some and Unthough Known come close), I think there many 4.5 and 4 star songs on the album. It is their most consistent album to date and far better than I thought they could produce at this point in the career. I thought S/T was pretty damn good, but this blows that album out of the water.
