In Defense of Target.. ( well sort Of)

Now i cannot speak for every store across the country, but for the one where i am a manager i can. at our store we had everything that was supposed to be released out on our shelves, and we had more than enough cds, over 500, and about 20 vinyl.. our store only received 2 t-shirts in each size.. which i'm not sure was a target issue or a pearl jam issue.. im not aware of how many t-shirts were actually produced for sale.. but my guess is only a limited amount...

someone had mentioned in another thread about promotion in stores.. the reason for no signing, event displays or other things pointing out the release was because of a mix up with our marketing and promotion headquarters department.. They were only made aware a few weeks ago that the cd was to come out on a sunday and not a tuesday. so all of the signing and displays were not in stores in time for today.. all stores are to receive it by tommorrow for tuesday. they tried to rush it to the stores but im guessing many stores did not get it in time..i know stores are to receive two giant overhead billboards that say "PEARL JAM" that hang from the ceiling. and a display for the Vinyl and tshirts.. so be sure to look out for it

and again i just work there.. i have to control of what happens at headquarters and the dealings that take place.. so dont flame me.. it wasnt anyone's fault on store level

seems like the day they picked for release is reason for all these problems.

i thought sunday was a weird day to release backspacer.

So just make sure when you get your hands on the CD that it gets paid for......OR ELSE!!!!

  • Snafus today aside, the Target deal (esp since it allowed indie stores and iTunes), was an awesome. Besides electonic distribution, this THE new way to distribute. This is a major major distribution channel.

At age 38, married with two kids and trying to navigate through the Great Recession, I (and I have to believe a lot of our fanbase) don't know where all the indie stores are or are plugged all the time. I wish I could freezE in time a lot of the ways I did things before but life move on. Now if Target was a sweathshop or the deal forbid other distribution channels then that would suck.

I think they work on the snafus and keep working on this approach.

Shit makes sense to me, Sunday is a weird day for this to go down

I thought until yesterday that it was coming out of Friday, which I had seen printed a few places and made more sense to me

I would like to know PJ's reason for a Sunday release

it was my understanding that target starts their sales/promotions on sundays hence the sunday release

I don't think that Target had that much say

When they release a movie on any day other day then friday I believe it is the movie makers choice

From Target's point of view a Tuesday release would have boosted a slower day for sales
