  • Totally agree. One of the best songs they have ever done.
And I'm not living this life without you, I'm selfish and clear
And you're not leaving here without me, I don't wanna be without
My best... friend. Wake up, to see you could have it all
  • Force of Nature

understand she's a force of nature
contraband hiding deep inside he soul
exorcising her will to lose control
    she lets go

a common man, he don't stand a chance, no
wonderland pulling alice in the hole
no way to save someone who won't take the rope
    and just let's go

one man stands the edge of the ocean
    a beacon on dry land
    eyes upon the horizon
in the dark before the dawn

hurricane has the trade winds blowing
a gale force shaking windows in the storm
shipwreckon the rock that he calls home
    with one light on

    somewhere there'a a siren singing
    a song only he hears
all the strenght that you might think
    would disappear... resolving

    one man stand alone, awaiting
    for her to come home
    eyes upon the horizon
in dark before the darkness meets the dawn

makes me ache... makes me shake...
is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?

last i say, he was out there waiting
a silhouette in the black light, full moon glow
in the sand there he stands upon the shore
    forevermore

    somewhere there's a siren singing
    a song only he hears
all the strength that you might think
    woul disappear, resolving

    one man stands alone, awaiting
    for her to come home
eyes are closed... you cannot know
but his heart don't seem to roam

To me, it is, by a big margin, the worst, song on any Pearl Jam album. I've been listening to it over & over to try to find something likable about it. But I can't - it's bland, overwrought and thoroughly pedestrian. It sounds like it could be a cast-off from the Top Gun soundtrack. It's the first time that I've ever felt - in 18 years of listening to this band - that they've made a song I really never want to hear again.

  • I really wish I could feel the same way.

This is by far my least favorite song and probably one of the only songs I can't listen to. Maybe it'll be awesome live but I just get the feeling like it's bland and there could have been more.
  • nah, not the best. i would put it maybe 4th. really great song, but got some, supersonic, just breathe are all better in my opinion. although force of nature is probably one of the closest ones to "regular" PJ. that and amongst the waves, which is also pretty good.
  • Definitely up there, but so hard to pick a favourite on this absolute ripper of an album. Great to see some Mike McCready songwriting magic. At this stage, if I have to pick three faves, they'd be: Amongst The Waves, Unthought Known, and Force of Nature. We'll see if that changes after the next thousand listens - I can't stop! I think I need to take a cold shower or something.

Force is good, but I have to go with Unthought Known (for now).

  • I actually feel bad for you not being able to hear the beauty of it ...

I hear the beauty of something like Just Breathe, or The End, something deeply heartfelt, intricate, finespun & effortless. Force of Nature is none of those things. The melody is plain and obvious, the imagery is amateurish & overblown. When you hear those other songs & see how subtle a lyricist Ed can be, its really disappointing to hear him settle for such bombast. Same goes for the music. They're capable of much better .

It sounds to me like a song that is trying to be great, trying too hard to be epic, but just sounding all the more ordinary and cliched because of it. It's desperately trying to soar, but it never gets off the ground.

Kinda like an ostrich trying to be an eagle.

    ...to me.

If you hear beauty in it, that's great for you.
