Making a PJ mixtape

So, I have 3 girlfriends that want to better understand my obsession with PJ so I am making them a mixtape to introduce them to their music, other that Alive and Jeremy. lol!
I am OVERWHELMED to say the least. I could make them 10 cds. I know what are my everyday staples that I listen to and love, but do I give them my favorites?
I need help! I need to make the cds short enough so that they will listen. I can't plop down a bunch of cds and think they will listen to them all.
In your opinion, what are the essential PJ songs that would introduce someone to the band? I am bring a friend to San Diego for her first show and want her to catch some insight before then.

i hear ya about making a mixtape. when i started dating my gf she hated pearl jam because of the songs she heard on the radio but i made her a mix cd and she loved it!! made her 2 more mixes after that and she loved them all. have taken her to 2 PJ concerts and an EV concert since then. needless to say the mixes worked!!
i just recently made a mix for her dad and he seemed to like the songs he heard also. once again i stayed away from the songs they would normally hear on the radio. every mix i made was the full 80 minutes. try to think of your friend's musical tastes and cater the playlist to those tastes. but to me some essential PJ songs, in my opinion, are:
given to fly
rearviewmirror
MFC
down
long road (live version)
corduroy
of the girl
red mosquito
and many others
like i said cater the mix cd to their musical tastes and you won't go wrong because PJ has something for everyone.0 -
Here was what I was thinking...
Better Man
Speed Of Sound
Long Road live
Thin Air
I Am Mine
Present Tense
Love Boat Captain live
Black live
Off the Girl
Release
Indifference live
Hail, Hail
In My Tree
Off He Goes
Footsteps
Nothing As It Seems
Breath
Inside Job
Corduroy
Nothingman
Garden
Given To Fly
Light Years
Around The Bend
Porch
Untitled - MFC live
Rearviewmirror
Other Side
Hard Sun & Guaranteed
I want to add a live Alive just because of the energy.
Thanks for the suugestions! Good ones to add.0 -
that looks like a good set of songs. also, when i make my cd mixes, i try to order them in a live show fashion. think about how they put together their setlists and what you want out of a set list and put it together. i think the ordering of songs in a mix is very huge.
good luck with it and i think you'll make some fans out of them.0 -

I'd keep it short and sweet for an introduction mix. 10-12 songs
Long Road
Faithfull
Sad
Down
Light Years
Given to Fly
State of Love and Trust
Corduroy
Rearviewmirror
Present Tense
Indifference
Yellow Ledbetter (gotta end with this right?)There's a trapdoor in the sun.0 -
Probably could give them Into the Wild too since its a quick listen. If ITW and the mix doesnt convert them......well, they have no musical soulThere's a trapdoor in the sun.0
