The Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album then Sky Blue Sky then Wilco (the album). Anything prior to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot sounds much different and I found more difficult to get into. these are my three favorite albums of theirs in that order.I’ve seen Pearl Jam 25 times, Eddie Vedder 9 times, and Brad once.0

just listened to yankee hotel foxtrot. Interesting stuff, will need to give it a few more listens i think!0

Summerteeth is their most accessible album as far as first listens go. I think it's harder to understand the brilliance of YHF without first hearing the albums before it.
There is nothing wrong with starting at the beginning and hearing them develop and change their sound along the way.0 -
Don't have much Wilco myself yet but the new one is very good indeed...Astoria Crew
Troubled souls unite, we got ourselves tonight...
Astoria, Dublin, Reading 06
Katowice, Wembley 07

ANY album is great but I would purchase YHF and the new album at once. Than work your way backwards from Wilco (The Album) way back to Mermaid Avenue and A.M.I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

I love you forever and forever

I'll throw in my pitch for Being There, and then Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Both are a joy to listen to... it just depends on your mood. Being There is arguably their most fun and pop-oriented record... and underrated in my humble opinion.San Diego 10/25/00; San Diego 07/07/06; EdVed-SD 04/15/08; San Francisco 08/28/09; Los Angeles 10/07/09; San Diego 10/09/090

being there is a masterpiece, not that the three they released after it weren't as well, but i think that album is really their crowning achievement. the album is rock n roll, that's what all the songs are about. it's for the fans, it's perfect. it's definitely underrated by casual listeners, but i think it's a favorite among the wilco faithful. (kinda like no code) best double album since blonde on blonde if you ask me. misunderstood is one of the greatest songs ever written.0 -

I second this - Being There is a great place to begin. Their first album is okay, but Being There was a major step up for the sophomore album. I like all their albums, but my favorites are Being There and Yankee, I suppose. Summerteeth and the new one are both really good also.0 -

Well said Tiki!San Diego 10/25/00; San Diego 07/07/06; EdVed-SD 04/15/08; San Francisco 08/28/09; Los Angeles 10/07/09; San Diego 10/09/090 -
I think a good intro to the band would be their live album Kicking Television. You would not have any music from their last two albums Sky Blue Sky or Wilco (the album), but it would give you a good overview of their earlier works.
Then you can look to see what albums each songs are from and see if you gravitate towards the earlier alt county ish work of am/being there, the pop brillance of summerteeth, the incrediable awesomeness of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, or the great song writing of a ghost is born.
that said if you are hell bent on a album get yankee hotel foxtrot it is their best, but don't give up on it. I listened to it a few times and wondered what all the fuss was about. I then put the album down for several months. Then i tried it again and the light bulb clicked.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -

I've listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Kicking Television and Sky Blue Sky. Im struggling to understand them tbh. There were a cool Neil Young type heavy songs on Kicking Television which were really cool. I watched that video too, will check out Being There later.0

Get 'Summerteeth' now! You owe it to yourself!
It's one of those rare albums that is absolutely perfect as it is. 'Wilco (the album)' is also very very good. “Do not postpone happiness”
(Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)
“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
(Tim Rogers)0 -
'Ashes of American Flags' the DVD comes with a download of all the audio. It kicks ass!Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0

I find that they are a band that doesn't grab you immediatly. I really like their lyrics. Give them time i'm sure they will grow with you.
As someone else said that Ashes of American flag DVD is pretty damn good and you would get a taste of their live show which like Pearl Jam is where they really shine. Perhaps you coudl rent it from somewhere?Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20
