Not a PJ show, but back in '93 I was in New Orleans at a Nirvana concert. The opening band had just started their set and I was towards the back of the floor crowd about to make my way to the front. About four rows in I felt someone grab the back of my shirt and jerk me out. It was a security guard. He said he saw me throw a cup of beer and that I was out of there. He handed me off to two other guards who escorted me out. I begged and pleaded, swearing it wasn't me, I was 15 at the time, and couldn't even buy beer! They had no sympathy though and I was outside before I knew it.

The best part is, as they were leading me out the security tool said something that would forever go down in the most ironic statement made category - "What's the big deal, it's just a Nirvana concert. Besides it's not like they won't be back in a year or two."

Needless to say, I never got to see Nirvana live.

And just so you know it was not me who threw the cup. If I had gotten hold of a cup of beer at 15 there is no way I would have wasted it by throwing it. I would have cherished it to the bottom.

  • PJ: Pittsburgh 2006 - could have had my 10c seats but my wife and I decided to limit ourselves to just the Cleveland show this tour. I always wanted to see/hear Release as an opener, and wouldn't you know...

Others: In 2000, had tickets to see the Who in Cleveland, Pete's side of the stage, row 16. They cancelled and played two shows in Boston instead.

In 1974, had tickets to see George Harrison in Cleveland. Show cancelled due to snowstorm, never rescheduled. That one's my greatest regret.
  • not the greatest show ....but...

i had a chance to go to Pittsburgh in 06....

    went to cincy instead.....

    YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!
    Take me piece by piece.....

    Fox Theatre, Atlanta 1994.

Lived there at the time but tickets were IMPOSSIBLE! Was at home with a baby and had to try on the phone....I think those shows sold out in less than 10 minutes.

I'm still bummed and it's still one of my favorite shows to listen to. (although I only have the entire show on cassestte tape!!!!!!!!!! )

PJ: Seattle in 95 if I recall.

Other: Beastie Boys in Portland 94

In the PJ case I had to work.

In the Beasties case I had just gotten clean and a bunch of my former druggie pals were going and I didn't want the temptation at that moment.
  • Name one and I've missed it as far as PJ goes.

My only concert was a pretty good one....Tad Gormley Stadium New Orleans '95
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

  • There were 2 that stand out in my mind.

    #1 - 1992-01-02 No set list
It was a school night and I was a sophomore in high school. A friend had a ticket for me, I had homework and my parents wouldn't let me go.
This is when they opened for RHCP and Nirvana

    Sounds familiar...

10/16/91 MADISON W/ CHILI PEPPERS AND PUMPKINS

DECIDED NOT TO GO AND CHOSE TO STUDY FOR A SCIENCE TEST THAT I WAS TOTALLY STRESSING ABOUT. AT THE TIME, I WASN'T REALLY AWARE OF PJ OR PUMKINS, HAD HEARD SOME CHILI PEPPERS, DIDN'T LIKE THEM ENOUGH TO GET DOWNTOWN THAT NIGHT. NEXT DAY AT SCHOOL EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT THE SHOW AND THE BANDS.

SEVENTEEN YEARS LATER, I STILL KICK MYSELF WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS THREAD MAKES ME THINK ABOUT IT.

    WHAT IF
"WE'RE UH, WE'RE GONNA DO THIS ONE WHICH IS UH, CERTAINLY NOT A USUAL ONE, AND THEN UH, JUST TAKE A FEW MORE MINUTES, THEN UH, AND THEN WE'RE GONNA DO OUR BEST TO KEEP TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS AWAKE FR..." (cheering at intro)...
