I would ask the band if "Footsteps" was something left over from the Temple of the Dog demos or bsides?
The song almost has the exact riff as "Times of Trouble"

Footsteps was one of the Stone/Jeff compositions that was sent to Ed as a demo. He wrote the lyrics to Footsteps. Then it was used on the Temple o/t Dog record before Pearl Jam ever had a record deal. So basically two of the greatest rock lyricists of all time wrote two very different songs from one riff.

Close, but no cigar. The songs Dollar Short (Alive), Agytian Crave (Once), and Times of Trouble (Footsteps/Times of Trouble) were all at one point Mother Love Bone songs. Andy had lyrics and had even possibly recorded these lyrics at a rehearsal or in a studio. He passed very soon after as these songs were coming to be.

Stone then took those 3 songs, as well as a bunch others known through The Gossman Project (mostly named based on time signatures and key, and resemblence to other songs. Doobie E - doobie brothers feel, key of E, 7up - time signature is 7/4, Weird A - weird riff in A - typical ways to title songs that don't have a title...if you've ever been in a band - how many untitled songs do you have?)

So the Gossman project made its rounds, and Eddie recorded his version (Footsteps) while in San Diego, as Stone, Jeff, and Mike were working with Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron for Temple of the Dog - where Chris Cornell wrote his lyrics to Times of Trouble - keeping the original Andy Wood title, as well as using 7up for Pushin' Forward Back.

Of course they flew Eddie out to Seattle and were going to rehearse after ToTD were done rehearsing as Eddie noticed Chris struggling with both parts of Hunger Strike, and Ed timidly walked up to the mic to help him out - the rest of that is history.

    ANYWAYS....

So my question would be, will Dollar Short, Agytian Crave, and Times of Trouble ever see the lite of day featuring Andy's lyrics?

    Hope that helped fellas!

"Why do you not play No Way live?"

I would ask this directly to Stone.

  • i'd ask "Hey can i join?" i don't know what i'd do considering they already have 2 guitarists (three when ed plays) and one of every other instrument i can play...no spots for me...but i'd ask anyways...

if that fails i'd just ask to jam with them...show off how many PJ songs i can play on guitar

You just repeated exactly what he said, only more in depth. Which wasn't needed at all. But thanks anyway.
