yeah, in our dreams, right! dave a. was very similar to carter as far as talent and style goes. dave's kit wasn't as big and fancy but it didn't need to be considering pj's style of music vs. dmb. dave and carter both play effortlessly hard and never miss a beat and both know what to do during a jam session where matt just sounds lost and random.

first of all, wake up? why don't you wake up from your stupidity? the fixer is simply a good song, and matt cameron is one of the finest drummers in the world. you think carter buttford is good, should have known, your like every other non-drummer in the world...

Its awesome that you love Matt, He's my favorite drummer personally too.....

But to say Carter BUTTford.....WOOOOOWWWW Carter is much more talented around the kit then Matt.

i think its very unfair and disrespectful to both matt and carter to compare them to each other. one plays in a jam band where he has the freedom to do 10-15 minute drum solo and the other is in a rock band.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • Carter and Matt are very different drummers. Matt & PJ are on a completely different planet stylistically than Carter & DMB. Both are amazing at what they do. A drummer like Carter would sound terrible in a band like PJ. Different wavelengths people.

    Bring back Jack Irons!
    God no..

Can I just say.. I hate his style.. I like Matt's order.

Jack's sloppiness just makes me edgy. I respect his abilities, but not for me.

Are you serious? I've played drums for years and I'll be the first to tell you from a technical perspective Carter is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Matt. He can't touch the Jazz style Carter uses.

Matt's drumming sounds really good on the 98-00 bootlegs, it seems like he's lost something since then. Everything sounds exactly the same to me, there's no diversity in his playing at all.

  • Matt should only be allowed to drum if he never writes another song again. His songs are gaping black holes of suck in every album.

but as a drummer, i dont really care either way.

I like Matt live. My first PJ show was in 1998 so I've only seen them with Matt. I'm not saying that he's my favorite PJ drummer because he's not, but I always thought he more than held his own and plays live with a lot of energy. I t hink he brings more urgentness to the songs than Jack did.

Matt is fine...my concern is the overall sound coming from the band...all instruments included. I think part of the reason the boots these days aren't as good is because a lot of times PJ's setup makes it sound like they are playing inside a tin can....those 2003 mixes were brilliant...get that sound back!! Give Jeff a little more juice on his bass and turn off that echoing, piercing shrill of mike's guitar...It would make the new tunes sound bad ass instead of sounding cracked out on high treble.

what i should have said was, i don't know how to play the drums. and you certainly don't have to know how to play the drums in order to know an amazing drummer(dave a.) from a lesser talented one (matt c.). it's pretty obvious.

This has got to be the stupidest post I've read on this board. Again, have you ever listened to Soundgarden?? Odd time signtures, shifts in time mid song, mid verse, singing backup while drumming. Matt Cameron is an immensely talented drummer, and Dave A could nver hold a candle talent wise to Matt C. Debate whether you think one drummer is better suited for Pearl Jam, but do not debate drumming merits of Matt C to Dave A.

Well said. This thread is definitely on the nose! :x

are yooouuuu serious?? I like to think of it this way, Carter wouldn't be able to play how matt plays, Matt wouldn't be able to play how carter plays. Have you listened to any wellwater stuff? soundgarden? oh yea and any Pearl Jam? it's all about Sound, Time, Solidness, and Stamina... which is what makes matt a Legend

Cameron is an animal behind the kit.
sure his style may lack complexity, but he is one of the best rock drummers Ive ever seen live

I agree Sleep.With.Innocence, though I think even in 98-00 Matt was still not playing the early music well.... and I too am a drummer of a couple dozen years. At least Matt has been able to be creative on the albums he recorded with the band.

Do you remember the little story "Emperor's New Clothes"? This topic is along similar lines.

You better rush to the hospital. You have an obvious brain injury.
  • Matt should pack up his crappy drums and find a new profession. Clearly he is not meant to be a drummer. Man I wish Matt Chamberlain said Yes

Agreed! Not a fan of the Matt songs

I prefer Jack and Dave drumming. Jack gave them such a unique sound and influence.
