When I found that they covered R.E.M.'s 'The One I Love' and 'Nightswimming' on their new CD/DVD, I looked at the rest of the tracklisting and found 'Better Man'. Here's a little taste: mms://music.walmart.com/g2demand/006/02 ... 01.003.asf

Their guitarist is a huge PJ fan. Ran it in a local newspaper about 4 months ago. Said he was in an alternative band before meeting up with Nettles to form Sugarland.

Wow, really? I guess we should keep an open mind. Although I gotta say my mind is all stretched out after hearing that. Is that a guy or a girl's voice?

Can't say I can help, I've never even heard of Sugarland....I was expecting Timbaland until I listened to it  I had to re-read the thread and now I'm even more lost :?

It is a girl, a country band

she can sing for sure saw her open for Kenny Chesney, however when she talks she has way too much southern accent in her for my liking. (I have to make trade offs to get the sig other to come to PJ, so I have to see the country acts she likes)

her vocals in "Love" are fucking beautiful- one of the best openers I have ever seen

I wish there was more to hear in the clip

Oh. Dear.

Not at cringe-worthy as Dwight Yoakam covering the Clash's Train in Vain, but still...

You know, we already ceded southern rock to the rednecks. And let's be honest, they're more than welcome to all the Skynrd and .38 Special and AC/DC they can handle. But, please... LEAVE PEARL JAM ALONE!!!!!!!! :D

I actually really liked what I heard there. And I'm not really a country music fan. I thought they did justice to the song while putting their own spin on it.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

No one who opens for Kenny Chesney should be allowed to cover Pearl Jam.

Yeah, i'm gonna pass on this one. That would be great!
• i hate her voice. really super annoying for me. just that twang or whatever it is...hearing her voice makes me have a bad day. after i hear it, it is officially the worst day of my life.
• Hmm. Not bad, although country aint my thang. Just glad it's not that fat, sad guy from Staind butchering another pj song with his cheesy, I'm so full of pain voice.

Pearl Jam is at a point where other bands cover their music, as PJ has done for others like Uncle Neil, the Who and on and on. I wonder if the die hard, long time fans of those bands like PJ covering their bands stuff? If it opens the PJ door to new fans, I say go ahead and cover more!

too many closed minded pearl jam fans..its truely amazing

i dont prefer to listen country at all but respect that this band admired the boys enough to cover one of their songs and what if this song had special meaning ( as in went thru a similar situation) to her or one of the members of the band?

seriously quit being self righteous

Unfortunately my wife is a country fan and I occaisonally and unfortunately have to hear this woman attempt to sing. It makes me cringe and always reminds me why I am glad to be from the NE corridor. To have this voice come in and try to invade my side of the music spectrum makes me sick to my stomach. I am now going to go throw up. Repeatedly.

I got a call from one of my buddies that he was going to this show and had an extra ticket. Not being a huge country fan I didn't know what to expect. Ok I knew what to expect, a lot of rednecks and a lot of beer. So I took a chance and went. It was actually a fun experience going to a show where the only song I knew from 5 acts was a Pearl Jam cover! Not a fan of monster stadium shows though, the sound is not great.

Anyway I took an iphone vid of it. Not the best but you can tell in a few places that she didn't butcher it. It's def not on par w/Ed but as someone else said, I too have heard worse PJ covers.

I actually thought it was pretty good, but I'd been there since Noon and they came on after 5 so everything sounded great at that point ~ after the preceding hours in the beer garden. Sorry about the shaky hands, it was hard enough to stand up!
