So just as I expected we learned absolutely zilch last night about his healthcare plan. IMO it was the same rhetoric that we have been hearing since the elections.
And what about the last 2 questions ? :? They had nothing to do with health care.

I learned a little bit while watching but I didnt take notes, i wish i did. I'm hoping I find a link of the talking points.

either way, the bill is not finalized so its hard to throw support, for or against.

and yea, not sure why they asked non healthcare questions.

I was watching the Tigers and missed it. Nobody even knows what the plan is yet and he's not going to be able to explain it in just a few minutes anyway, so I'll wait until there's something firm and read up on it before I decide where I stand on it. I'd probably have rather watched that than the choke job the Tigers pulled last night.

Obama touched on a few things I very much support. such as limiting the amount premiums can be raised and forcing insurance companies to not drop someone because of a medical condition. there were some others as well.

as far as cost, I liked that he is going to shuffle around 2/3rds of cost with money we already pay for in taxes....he mentioned stopping some subsidies to insurance companies. the rest, he mentioned, would be paid for not by higher % increase in taxes, but by closing some deduction loopholes when filing taxes. but only for the rich. but this is still in committee.

I agree with you about nobody knowing anything about the healthcare program, and the president not being able to explain it. But it's kind of scary to me that he wants to push it through so soon. This is important, and something has to change, I just hope they take their time with it and do it right.

I rather suspect this will not solve the problem. If they can't raise rates and can't drop people, they will drop the extent of coverage. You give them an inch and they will find a way to wiggle through it, because guaranteeing profit takes precedence over all other concerns. And you still have the problem of limiting patient choice of doctors, types of servies, etc. This still leaves the sick at the mercy of the whims of their insurers, whose chief interest is never going to be making sure those sick people get the services they need, it will be making sure they can make money off that sickness by limiting their options.

The Tigers had better learn how to hit a baseball with runners on if they hope to hold onto their lead in this division. It's pathetic. Looking forward to the series against the Sox at home though.

sorry to interrupt the sport talk.....but yes, excellent points. THAT is what it will, always, come down to. honestly, rightly so. insurance companies are not in business to be in service...they are in BUSINESS to make MONEY, to turn a profit. they have chosen a service industry in which to do so, simply b/c it is extremely PROFITABLE to do so. those stock dividends and all those CEO salaries need to get paid. no matter what, it comes out of our pockets or out of our options and health.

however, while i agree it won't work long-term...i think at the very least, some REFORM of our current system (in the hopes to pave the way for a NEW system) is an excellent start.

I heard as much government control as we would have under national health care....I mean honestly, how can the gov't require an insurance company to take someone who has cancer? The ins co could justify huge premiums that the person couldn't afford anyway....

we need a system where all are covered regardless of insurance....insurance is just an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy

i don't see anyone on here professing to be a healthcare expert as you so sarcastically insinuate.

i do see people talking about their first hand experiences with the current system who are actually employed in the health care industry.

and, funnily enough, some of us that are in that profession, don't work nice little 9-5 jobs and are home to pick and choose what we may wish to watch on television everynight.
