Is it cool, merely acceptable, or completely lame to wear a bands t-shirt to their concert?

I avoid it personally but have mates who always wear band t-shirts to that group's gig.
A good compromise I saw was a Citizen Dick t-shirt at a PJ concert.

Any thoughts?

In my opinion it's pretty lame, but nothing to get worked up about...wearing a shirt you bought at the show is worse, IMO...

I like ones that are reference shirts, like Citizen Dick or an Easy St. shirt...

  • You're right, there is nothing like a shirt with the price tag still hanging off it...

Shirts of the bands contemporaries always go down well, though.

I also think it becomes acceptable to wear a legit super old school tour shirt...like something very worn out from the VS. tour or something...

I usually wear an older PJ shirt or an older band shirt... I have an old Skin Yard shirt that I wear to concerts sometimes...

I would wear a newer shirt b/c I don't expect to get judged for wearing a PJ shirt @ a PJ concert... especially when the lights are off for 97% of the show.

i like when people wear concert specific or tour specific shirts to show.

if you're seeing a show in cali and you see a dude with a VFC tour shirt, you can pretty much assume that said dude is a rabid fan. if you are also a sick in the head fan, its a good conversation starter.

i love to rock my irving plaza and borgota shirts to shows.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status
  • by the way, i just wanna add in here that people can wear what the hell they like. I never judge people for what they wear.

I dunno why i don't wear band shirts to gigs, it's just something I'm not into. I like to wear well worn concert shirts that have been with me to X amount of gigs. I still have an EMF Schubert Dip t-shirt that i get out only for concerts, no matter how uncool they are (and were). It's just my concert shirt.

Wishlist shirts are cool to wear, as you can see who tends to be more in the loop!

I tend to go for the old school originals approach. If it's a PJ show I usually wear the white Don't Give Up shirt I bought in 93, if it's a non-PJ show I usually wear my old Daydream Nation long sleeve.

It's not an "I was into them years ago/my shirt's older than your shirt" thing either, they're just my favourite gig shirts and they've been to a lot of great shows

I agree completely and feel that should apply to any day of one's life... But here are a few reasons not to be "that guy" at the concert:

*Everyone knows you're a fan since you're at the show.
*An older, more obscure shirt does NOT make you a bigger fan.
*That shirt you just bought doesn't deserve to get all sweaty, smelling like beer & pot on its first night.
*A different band's shirt is typically a better conversation starter.
*Picture the guy wearing his Def Leppard shirt to their concert. You know the one with the greasy mullet covering his sun scorched neck... Now you two have something in common. (Maybe you should yell 'free bird' all fuckin' night.)
*Instead of advertising your love for Pearl Jam with your clothing, use your voice and body. Sing along and cheer loudly... And please, please, please don't stand still all night.

This is coming from a guy with way too many Pearl Jam shirts by the way. A collection that will never stop growing. But I've got the other three hundred and fifty some odd days of the year to wear them.
