ample sigh before the sharpest tongue

how was i to know
the summers you seek are bare
the trees you stand beneath
have no leaves
and the sky you look to
has no sun

breathe through a key hole of time
thoughts arise through my mind
telling stories
of nature's past
needing only what's left
in the glass

eyes open
hearts closed off
words distorted in an ample sigh
my flesh is soft
but my tongue is sharp

wit and consequence
linger in my eyes
look to me only if you
dare not look away
for it is tomorrow
and I will not stay
