So will Target be the ONLY place people can buy new album?

its still being worked out, the words of kelly curtis, but i still dont understand it. Obviously you can get the album from the 10 club. But...


So ONLY Target and Kelly hinted at other locations to be decided, will carry the new album, and other stores like Walmart will be banned from selling it? Will the local cd store carry it?

Kelly seemed to hint that while he respected the new Radiohead model, that this was an entirely new way of releasing an album.

I am still confused even with the explanation from Kelly.

    seeing as it isn't coming out for a few months ... try not to worry about it.

    As mentioned, I'm sure there will be plenty of places to buy it ... including 10c.

    Specifics just aren't worked out yet ... so, be patient.

    no, it will be in independent record stores, online, itunes. etc.

    It just wont be at walmart, bestbuy, etc.

    "We'll have a lot of partners," said Curtis, who confirmed that deals were also finished or in the works with an online retailer, a mobile partner, a gaming company and with a network or possibly networks of indie retail stores. "Target ended up allowing us to have other partners. We'll be able to take care of all levels of the Pearl Jam fan...We wish we could tell the whole story right now, but all the deals aren't done. Target was cool enough to realize that little independent record stores are not their competition." Curtis was also quick to note that the album would be for sale via Pearl Jam's fan club, Ten Club.

    I am just curious. I could talk about the music buisness and all that for days on end. Not so much the music industry per say but the ways bands like Radiohead, The Raconteurs, NIN and Bloc Party seem to be increasingly inventive and brilliant in dealing with a dying industry.

    I wasnt worried I wasnt going to be able to buy the record. I am a dues paying 10 club member, I was just more curious.

    As I said, this stuff gets me going.

    it does seem like, they are suggesting the album wont be available at major corporation retailers, excepting target and the other sites that the are still working on.

    Its a facinating idea, but how do you ban Walmart and Best Buy and other giants from selling your product?

    If true this is another example of Pearl jam standing up for what it believes is right, and oddly that means selling the record in a major corporations store. I am not being condescending.

    How many other bands would, from the sound of it, ban selected retailers from selling their product. pearl jam will only be losing profit, so for them to take this stand or what appears to be said stand is pretty courageous and shows once again they dont give a damn about the money.

    Similar to the Ticketmaster debacle, instead of touring with ticketmaster and raking in the dough as they were undoubtably the biggest band in the world at the time, they instead try touring without ticketmaster and then release albums like No Code which Ed has said, was made largely to lose fans, thus losing money.

    Generally, it looks like you will NOT be able to get it at Walmart or Best Buy or the like. Target is the only major, big box store that will carry it. But it also looks like it will be available at many independent stores... basically music stores.

    Tons. Exclusive deals like this are nothing new. You could only buy the last Guns'nRoses album at Best Buy, not Target or Walmart. They're just adding the twist of including independent stores.
