WWE Vs. NBA

Probably the most interseting thing to happen to the NBA in a long time. McMahons quotes are classic.

Yeah, I'd have to see what the league rules are... do they have specific dates that need held, or rules about a building holding dates during the playoffs? If the building broke those rules and booked WWE anyway, then it's going to cost them a pretty penny to make the WWE go away.

It's a pretty almighty cock up by the people at Denver. I hope ticketholders get sorted out as changing something like that is a massive inconvienence for all concerned.
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

The situation is the second of its kind in the past month. During the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals were forced to play on back-to-back days due to a Yanni concert at Mellon Arena.
At that time, a WWE event at the arena also factored into the decision.
This thing is bigger than just the ticketholders, it affects tv. WWE is broadcast live and to find an arena and sell tickets and put on a live show that fits all the travel plans of the company in a week is a big deal. Plus I think WWE gets better tv ratings than the NBA playoffs so ESPN would have to make a financial settlement with USA as well if the event is canceled in case they can't find a new venue in short notice.

Unless the Pepsi Center decides to go back on the contract which will:
A) not look good to other sport affiliations, corporations, bands/their management, etc.. for a place to schedule their show.
The Pepsi Center should just buckle down, take the hit and reschedule and learn from their mistake..and more importantly remember when you send a contract to a client for them to sign that RESERVES their date.
Bafoons.

In the reports I heard it said the Nuggets own the arena, so the NBA is leaving it up to them. I'd piss off inside business before outside business.

exactly. He can't carry the NBA's jockstrap...he knows he can't compete with the NBA semifinals....so he's gonna raise hell and get as much coverage as possible on the matter, before he moves venues.
But he is going to get paid a lot of money by the nuggets to do it.
Except that the WWE gets better tv ratings than the NBA.

I love that he says what he does. It's almost like he knows his "sport" is kind of cheesy so he can be a lot more politically incorrect, because people kind of expect it from him.
On the radio yesterday he was quoted as saying that the Denver Nuggets' owner "should be arrested for impersonating a good business man."
Effing hilarious!
I can't find ESPN's numbers, but TNT has averaged a 2.6 for the playoffs:
To date, the NBA Playoffs on TNT are averaging a 2.6 US HH rating for 36 games, up 8% over last year (36 games).

Raw has average a 3.46 the 5 Mondays since the playoff started:

once a week vs. at least 5 or 6 games a week - not comparable. I love these kinds of comparisons with Nascar too - you hold one event a week doesn't compare with multiple events in a week. If you cumulatively added up the NBA ratings over all the games they would smoke wwe (and I don't really like the NBA). I had this argument on the old board regarding baseball vs. nascar last year. People try to claim NASCAR is more popular because they draw over 100,00 each week - I countered that major league baseball draws over 100,000 A NIGHT.
Yeah, and I bet the show on Monday is going to be portrayed as this "WWE under siege" mentality, and he'll milk it for all it's worth...
That being said, knowing from working in different arenas, a WWE live-tv event take s A LOT of work/planning... I feel bad for the people on the ground with WWE and the Staples Center who actually have to pull this off on like 4 days notice over a holiday weekend.

I think it is comparable though when you take into account the situation and that you are comparing the viewership of one wrestling show and one basketball game.
I wonder how many of the wrestlers will be wearing Lakers jerseys...
How did you guess?
