So for our Anniversary last weekend I got my wife diamond earrings and a trip to Toronto to see one of our favorite bands at Massey Hall - The Tragically Hip! She also found a cool bag at Roots that I think I'll end up purchasing :)

So what does she surprise me with? A Hot Air Balloon ride. I don't like heights!!!!!!! I have no problem with airplanes but a balloon?? My nuts will be clicking on that day. Do you think shes trying to kill me with a heart attack?

    Unfortunately, yes :)

Be afraid, be very afraid! :o:o:o:o:o

Just kidding. I only have 9 years of marriage under my belt. However, in that time I've notice that when my wife has 'missed' on gifts it because she got something that she wanted and convinced herself that I would like it.

maybe she's trying to expand your horizons - see that it isn't so bad? i have ALWAYS wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride, and i suspect 1. my husband always forgot about it when it came time to getting me a gift. 2. he's not really fond of the idea either, thus never got tickets. soooooo, back in 2001 i was visiting my friend in helsinki and i saw in a tourist office they had a brochure for balloon rides! i said fuck it, i'm going! it was pricey thus my friend had no interest - and i also think she too was a bit afraid. i expected it to be full of tourists, but it was all fins except me! so that made it even more fun! 8-) it was an absolutely breath-taking experience, flying over helsinki's archepalaegeo(sp).....plus, being summertime and their sunlight until about 1 AM....stunning. of course, you have to wait around a good bit to see if the trip will even happen, all depends on the weather....but i had a great time chatting with everyone.....went on a spectacular ride.....took AMAZING pics.....and then when we landed we all had champagne, cheese, fruit. a truly fantastic life memory! so yes....maybe she wants to share another unforgettable life memory with you.

Yeah I know and she knew I'd do it too. Hopefully i won't be paralyzed with fear and enjoy it. Will probably schedule it in the summer and I'll let you know how it went. Unless of course I die then I'll have my wife let you all know :)

i'll tell you this, while i don't really have a fear of heights per se......i also don't truly enjoy being too far up without something sturdy to lean on/hold onto. as i said, i've always DREAMED of a hot air balloon ride, but when we started to take off, i was on an outside edge (they arrange people roughly by weight to evenly distribute - there were about 10-12 people in my balloon) and we are going up, and there are footholds on the side of the balloon....and i see my toes poking out the edge and i am thinking....i am in a fucking basket....flying up in the sky. i freaked myself out for a bit there. but really, only for a bit....and once we got some height.....OMG...just unreal!!! let me tell you, once you are up, up, up in the sky....and when the balloonist isn't firing into the balloon.....there is absolute *silence*...and it is amazing. i can think of no other mode of travel that is just so quiet. oftentimes people were all quiet b/c it was so amazing.........truly.......

i think you will ultimately surprise yourself and thoroughly enjoy it....and thank your wife for the amazing and beautiful experience. i have unreal pics, but i took em with a film camera. perhaps someday i will scan them into my computer, but given how lazy i am ;).....i wouldn't hold my breath.

    anyhoo.....ENJOY!
and definitely let us know all about it when it all happens!

yea, i kinda figured i would  ....but you seee it was to show you where it would take you, and you do get past it. it's AMAZING. truly.

one of the guys i met - an older gentleman who recieved his balloon ride as a retirement gift actually sent my GF pics he took of me and of my balloon (about 3 balloons took off together that night) b/c i had briefly mentioned her name and trainstop....he tracked her down and sent the pics so she could send to me! spectacular! it was awesome to have pics of *my* balloon in the air, since obviously i could only take pics of it on the ground being inflated/deflated......the scenery....other balloons in the sky. just absolutely spectacular. so you ever go to finland, i recommend another balloon ride. ;)

btw - the balloon baskets are extremely sturdy, obviously. some can hold up to 20 people....all have metal thruout, etc. but yea....you still think, i am in a fucking basket. also why it's so AMAZING!

This is funny as hell, but I share your pain. I have no problem flying or being up in the air, but I prefer to be in something enclosed. I also love all amusement park/ fair rides....except for the ferris wheel. My wife was unaware of this, and said she wanted to go on...the ferris wheel. So I give in and it's not too bad. I am sitting really still, and as long as the ride is moving...I am fine. BUT, when we are stopped at the top she starts rocking a little...then she notices that I have not moved or said a word since we got on the ride and that I'm whiteknuckling the hand rail. I had to calmly ask her to sit as still as possible. It's funny now, but I was sweating bullets on that ride. I am sure the hot air balloon will go much quicker. I would even give that one a try. You will be fine....but, if something happens, what kind of PJ merch will she be selling?? HAHA

I can't stand on a step ladder without wanting to throw up. I don't see Balloon rides in my future.
    But good luck! And enjoy!

Exactly me - Love the coasters but the Ferris Wheel when stopped up top scares the crap out of me.
