Working at a golf course during the summer or just on the weekends is awesome. You get to be outside, and watch douche bags think they are tiger woods.
i was thinking of getting a second job. i work retail as my primary so scheduling is crazy. i think if i were to look for a second job, it would be some sort of vendor that services the stores. you'd be amazed how many different companies service supermarkets. spices, magazines, coke/pepsi/goya i could rattle off a dozen more easily.
the guys that do spices and magazines seem to have flexible schedules and only work a few days a week. hmm
I picked up a second job as a cocktail waitress to pay for my tour last summer... worked out pretty nicely.
That being said... the job sucked, but I think that was more a virtue of the bar than anything. I'd worked as a restaurant bartender for 3 years before that and loved that job.
You can make some serious bank on weekend bartending jobs - but it totally wrecks your sleep schedule if it's a "bar" bar. Restaurant bars that aren't open until close are much easier... but you tend to make less money.

What field is your first job in? Full time? What hours?
Second job needs to fit in with first.
Good point. I work in research at a hospital the hours are 9-5:30pm mon-fri.
Week-end and day... shop assistant? Waitress (but not cocktail waitress because of hours). As articangel says, working nights will completely mess up your sleep pattern. I suppose working in research you need to be clear headed and not falling asleep over your microscope. Any chance of extra hours at the hospital?
become a photographers assistant( weddings and such) you can make about 150-300 a day depending on who you work for. The job is pretty easy, setting up lights, carrying equip etc.. It is a long day though.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Does anyone have any experience or know anyone who has done any work at home stuff? I hear a lot of things advertised on the radio but I worry that it is a scam. I really only need to make about $500 dollars or so a month to get back on track and try to pay off some bills to get some breathing room. It would be nice to have something I could work from home a couple of hours a night so I could still be home with family and make a few extra $.

Can you get an extra part-time research gig? Depending on the kind of research, you should be able to do it from home.

If this 'working from home' stuff is the same as in the UK, it's all SCAMS! Don't even respond to them.

Are you sure you want to work two jobs though? It's very stressful to work seven days a week.
