Sad news indeed......2 time NBA champion coach of the Detroit Pistons has passed away after a bout with pancreatic cancer at the age of 78 :cry: Also was the coach of the dream team, the orginal and in my book only dream team at the Barcelona Olympics in '92



He also coached the New Jersey Nets, and after Nets star Drazen Petrovic Died in an car accident, he came out to the Croatian community in NYC to express his condolences at Drazen's memorial service along with the rest of the Nets. I got to shake his Hand and say thank you to him for his kind words....you can tell Drazen meant a lot to him..........and Chuck you meant a lot to many Basketball fans across the globe, truly one of the bests all time

RIP CHUCK....You'll be missed

    It's a sad day in Detroit.
    Chuck helped put Piston basketball on the map in the late 80s and early 90s. He was as much the face of the franchise as Isaiah Thomas or Joe Dumars.

    I knew the name but forgot who he was until I caught Sportscenter this morning. Very sad news.

    Thanks for that!!! That Nets team back in the day was fun to watch....when I watch hoops I often think how much better Drazen would have gotten.....He was still on his way up, and was averaging 20 something points a game, and was a knock down 3 point shooter

    I was at his retirement ceremony and watched the video they gave away from that. He was a great coach and more importantly a great man.

    I think the craziest thing in his career is that he left the Boston College job as head coach to take the head coaching job at Penn. Can you ever imagine a guy leaving the Big East or ACC to take a job at an Ivy League school anymore? College basketball was a lot different 40 years ago.

    Any coach who can keep the likes of Rick Mahorn (My alma mart-er Hampton Institute), Bill Lambeer and Isaih Thomas with their temperament is MORE than alright with me. A truly great coach that I actually liked.
