SHAWN SMITH - The Diamond Hand CD & T-shirt

randallanddarcy wrote:The Diamond Hand album is great. Really great. The only downside, sonically, are the awful female harmonies on "The Congregation". Big thumbs down for Lucy Suzuki's (she's Shawn's self-styled 'guru') incredibly irritating backing vox. Other than that, the album's a cracker!
I think the best tunes, off the top of my head, are "Losing Home", "Ring that Bell" and "Here Come the Holy Rollers". Of course, that's just my totally subjective opinion.
As well as the J-man's suggestion above, you can also buy the re-released first two albums as well as this new one at soundvssilence.com
Randall.
Losing Home is by far one of my favorite tunes. Absolutely love it! Also, I really love the backing vox on Congregation...one of the best parts of the song in my opinion. The "children" contrasting with Shawn is awesome...kiddie choruses always seem to work...Stardog Champion by Mother Love Bone and of course Another Brick in the Wall pt 2 by Pink Floyd being two great examples.Shawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel

randallanddarcy wrote:Audio AUD recording linked from Scott Ford Radio site. From Portland 2003. Sounds great. Most of the tunes are re-arranged. He has a band with him (not Brad). Shawn can do the most amazing Crown of Thorns, unfortunately, this Johnny Cash-like version ain't it. Great to hear a load of 'Shield...' songs live, besides the usual 'Wrapped in my Memory'. And 'Pearl' is stunning on this too. If you're a fan, go get it.
I downloaded this from the SFR site a couple of months ago and it was my first listen to Shawn Smith  I can't believe I waited so long to check him out. I didn't like the Crown of Thorns cover at all. Like you said, Pearl was amazing and I loved Purple Rain and Leaving California!!! So all I have listened to is this boot. Any suggestions where I should start next?0 -

I saw him at the london show.. I think the pub was called the half moon, it's famous for the stones having played there and various others, it's small, very small. The show was great, he started off by stating 'it's been a long time coming' then took off, I think he was quite nervous at first. He was at the bar before the gig and was around afterwards, signing posters and chatting. Sandra got me a poster, taaa. It's a great poster that glows in the dark when the lights are off.Salut baloo0

Live at the Point reissue is now available at Sound vs Silence (http://soundvssilence.bigcartel.com) for only $10.00!!!
To Pjgarden: Shawn's Shield of Thorns and Diamond Hand albums are his most accessible (and, I think, his best overall). Brad's Interiors and Satchel's The Family are also great starting points.Shawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel

Just some tidbits to throw out there:
1. We're having a contest at the Collective for FREE copies of Shawn's Live at the Point reissue: www.sscollective.net
2. Shawn is playing a show at ToST Lounge, Seattle on April 17 as Shawn Smith & Fireside Gospel. This project is a collaboration between Shawn and Joey Veneziani.
3. All Hail the Crown will be playing May 9 at the High Dive, Seattle. AHTC's sophomore album is almost ready for release. This is the band with Kevin Wood that started as "the second coming of Malfunkshun."
4. Finally, Shawn has floated the idea of doing an Appalachian album
Additional details on the website. Thanks everyone!Shawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel

J, check your email.
If anyone wants an uncirculated Shawn show from last year, PM me and I'll send you the link. It's not the York show I taped, it's a different UK show someone else taped, but I have permission to circulate. Thanks to the taper, who's kinda new to the taping fold, but very generous with it. :rawk 'n' roll:

Hey all, I'm cleaning out my CD collection for the millionth time, and I discovered a few rare Brad import singles I'm gonna sell. I prefer to get them in the hands of a true fan, rather than sell on eBay or to a used CD store. So if you're interested in either (or both) of these, let me know:
Brad - The Day Brings
-- Australia only CD, Cat # 664712 2, Epic, 1997
1. The Day Brings
2. Boom Boom Caw
3. Saucy
4. 20th Century (‘66 Chevelle)
Brad - Secret Girl
-- Australia only CD, Cat # 665533 2, Epic, 1997
Seance and Heaven Help were also released as bonus tracks on the Japanese version of Interiors.
1. Secret Girl
2. Séance
3. Heaven Help
4. The Day Brings (Acoustic)
I'm also selling the Satchel "EDC" CD which isn't that rare, but if you've been hunting it, I can let it go for a few bucks.

Hey Rands, you get the email I sent last week? And Strummers, I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you there.
In Shawn news, he's made a cameo on the new Super Sonic Soul Pimps album, which is due for release on Valentine's Day. In addition to Satchel's show at The Croc on Feb 18, they'll be opening for The Pimps in Portland on Feb 12. Check the site for details! Also, you can catch up on all things Satchel at satchelpartnership.comShawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel
