I tried to start this thread on The Porch but then the whole Memphis drama went down and it got lost in the shuffle. Probably more appropriate here anyway.

I digress. Obviously a lot of us are headed (tentatively) to Outside Lands for PJ - but since we'll be there anyway... who else are you excited to see? (Who else should I see? Can I tag along with you?!)

Pearl Jam
DMB
Incubus
M.I.A.
TV on the Radio
The National
The Dead Weather
Modest Mouse

Lots of good bands I haven't heard before - but people are always telling me to check out. Guess this is my chance!! Should be a busy weekend. :)

Jason Mraz is fantastic live...imagine Jack Johnson with a better voice and a better band. for me thats a big compliment to him, but he puts on a great feelgood show.

and Tom Jones would be a bit of craic! the mans a farcical legend, cringeworthy, but those guys shine at festivals. a few singalongs & the like 8-)

Thievery Corporation sound like a good one to see too.

For me, The National were a HUGE disappointment live.

The NAtional ARE a huge dissapointment live. I saw two winters ago and really thought his vocals are just to weak live. Love them on CD but live is a great dissapointment. That being said, I'll be seeing them again at APW festival so maybe they can change my opinion.

I'd go see Os Mutantes. Crazy Brazillian Psychedlic group from the late 60's. Although I don't think too many of the original members are still in the group.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I've seen the Beastie Boys and Calexico and recommend seeing both of them.

I've never seen Mastodon, Bettye Lavette, or The Dirtbombs but have heard positive things.

I agree! Kinky is one of my favorite live acts...a great mix of hard rock, dance and ranchero music....they are the perfect band for a festival.

Ween, Band of Horses & Deerhunter are also worth checking out.

I too am not a DMB admirerer...Instead of watching them perfrom, I'd rather go shopping at Amoeba Music, or be hit-up for money by a Haight-Astbury run-away!

Ive never understood the hype with DMB. I just dont get it. I could live to be One million years old and not understand why that band is so famous. I mean, its just SOOO bland. I even got copies of four (five maybe?) of their albums.... Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Beastie Boys, make sure you see them. Get close up to the front, with the die hards... dance your socks off while surrounded by diehard fans rapping their wee hearts out . Makes for quite the atmosphere. I saw them four times over summer 07, and enjoyed each set more than the last.

i saw the national at a small venue and was absolutely blown away by how amazing they were!! so much better than what i was expecting...maybe they just had an off night when you saw them jordywordy??!

i wish i could go to this fest...maybe i can make it happen somehow?!

Yeah, for me, DMB live is the musical equivalent to getting hit over the head with a shovel repeatedly. I don't see how anyone can stand it. The Beastie Boys are absolutely putrid live too.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Listen guys... Ween. For real. One of the great live acts of all time.

Now granted, they are not for everyone. But I love them.

    DO NOT MISS THEM!!

I mean seriously if you can't get hyped for a show like this...

I disagree STRONGLY about the Beastie Boys. I saw them in the front row at the SB Bowl and it was a top 5 concert.

I could not disagree more. The only reason i like this band is because of how gret they are live.

I saw them open for the arcade fire and i was like who the hell are these guys they are great. i got their cd and was a little disapointed in the slightly less passionate versions of the songs on the album

Please don't miss the national. I've seen them twice and were wonderful both times.

i totally agree with you!! i was a fan before seeing them live...but the energy and passion of their show is just amazing. it definitely has to be in the right venue...that energy can just be lost in a large area/festival.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I number them among the worst live acts I have ever seen. And I go to a lot of concerts. . .

The Beastie Boys have great everytime I've seen them. Which is 3 or 4 times.

The worst act I've seen live is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, although I do love their records.

I love the Duke Spirit...saw them at the Roxy in Hollywood last December and they're really electric live! Highly recommended...they're opening for Incubus on their tour this summer, which is probably why both bands are playing at Outside Lands.

I saw them at the Brooklyn Academy of Music which is a beautiful theater...and the next time I see them will be at APW which really wont help their quite loungy sound. Too bad because I was a much bigger fan before seeing them.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I love the band, but both of my live experiences with them have been awful. Short sets. Band wasn't tight. Isaac's vocals were a mess.
